I am a self starter, motivated and creative individual. My organizational and problem solving skills are my greatest assets. I like to plan in advance. I am also a people person and like a work environment that uses a team approach. I also enjoy writing for others in my field.

E D U C A T I O N

Bachelor of Arts, English, Tennessee Technological University, 1987 Specific certifications include: Secondary Education endorsements in English, French and History. Current Studies include: Master of Arts candidate, Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Tennessee Technological University, projected date of graduation Dec. 1999.

E M P L O Y M E N T

Special Education Resource Room, Smith County Board of Education My primary responsibilities include implementing positive behavioral supports in the resource room, consulting with regular education teachers on behalf of my students with special needs, planning, writing and implementing the IEP for my students. I review current pedagogical methods and literature, curriculum models and legal material regarding current trends in special education.

Behavioral Specialist, DeKalb County High School 1997-1998 My primary job responsibilities include implementing a positive behavioral intervention and support program for special education students who exhibited oppositional and challenging behaviors. Duties included setting standards for behavior, monitoring and modeling the appropriate behaviors, evaluation of behavior in the classroom, and creating a reward and consequence program for students. Other duties included contacting parents, conferring with principals and teachers, conferring with guidance and school psychologist, writing behavioral objectives for Individualized Educational Plan, writing progress notes and planning daily activities. Professional development included attending a workshop on Oppositional Defiant Disorder February 1998. Continuing graduate studies at Tennessee Technological University.

Classroom Teacher/Counselor, Magnolia Academy 1993-1997 My primary job responsibilities included classroom and experiential outdoor instruction for 5 groups of 12 boys placed in a residential outdoor treatment facility. Other duties included contacting previous schools to request records, writing IEP's, participating in treatment team, participating in M-team, attending professional seminars, writing progress notes, planning adventure and educational trips and activities, and contributing to the upgrading of our curriculum. Professional development included classroom work in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention, suicide prevention, child abuse reporting, campcraft, and annual conference attendance at the Foster Parents of Tennessee Association meeting. Activities at Magnolia included walking to and from campsite, cleaning campsite, clearing trails, building and maintaining tent platforms, experiential outdoor walks to look at ecosystems, cloud patterns, and rock types.

Interim French Teacher, Cookeville High School 1990-1991 My primary job responsibilities included teaching French I and French II in a high school setting. I was also responsible for French club outings and activities. Hall monitoring and restroom monitoring during the class changes. Professional development meeting included cooperative education group studies and technology studies in foreign language.

French and English Teacher, Jackson County High School 1987-1990 My primary job responsibilities included teaching French I and II and English II in a high school setting. I also helped in selection of new text books for English and reading. I helped to organize the Just Say No--Jackson County Clean Teens Club and the French Club at that position. I was responsible for planning and chaperoning club activities and outings. I also chaperoned for the Biology class trip to Big South Fork, which included camping, hiking, and scientific experiential activities. Professional development included suicide prevention, drug abuse education and cooperative educational grouping.

Office Clerk and Darkroom Assistant, Tenn. Tech. Photographic Services 1978-1982, 1986-1987 My primary job responsibilities included printing photographic orders with black and white papers and automatic paper processors, maintaining photographic equipment, cleaning chemical tanks and trays safely, maintaining a working inventory of stock papers and developing chemicals. Secondary duties included assisting customers with picture selection and format and shooting specific photographic assignments. Locating negatives in photographic archives and updating photographic archives using a computer data entry cross-referencing system.

I N T E R E S T S & A C T I V I T I E S

Camping, canoeing, and hiking with family and friends. Public speaking at church activities, and professional seminars. Writing for professional and recreational publications.

C O M P U T E R S K I L L S Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, Desktop Publishing, Clarisworks, and other educational Mac applications. I have used the Word and Works programs for three years to type my progress notes and keep my grade book in order. I am able to create data bases using the internal templates. I completed the Special Education class at TTU for technology in the special education classroom. During that class, I learned to locate different ports in the back of Macs and add peripheral hardware as well as use scanner technology for the classroom.
