A Cathedral of Trees
Psalm 96:11-13 Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all
that is in it; let the fields be jubilant, and everything in her. Then all the trees of the forest
will sing for joy; they will sing before the Lord, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in His truth.
A cathedral of magnificant color surrounds me in Autumn. It’s just the trees changing
color--I know. The absence of sunlight causes photosynthesis to slow and finally stop.
But what a show!
Yes all nature shouts the splendor of God’s glory. The drying leaves make a rustling
sound as the breeze passes through them as though they are singing soft songs to heaven.
I wonder how many colors of robes were on the streets of Jerusalem when Jesus rode
through town on that young donkey colt. It could not compare to the stained glass
splendor of Autumn foliage.
Yes, it is a cathedral of trees made by God’s own hand. A momentary burst of color
before the long dark days of winter arrive. It is deeply gratifying to watch the show and to
know that in my own unique way, I am a part of it.
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for showing me the glory of fall. As I meditate upon your
Word and see the works of your hand, I marvel at how awsome and how beautiful heaven
must be. As the harvest of fruits and vegetables is laid by, help me to remember to look
up now and then at the magnificant show you are putting on for all creation to see. Amen.
Thought for the day: Let the earth be glad.Ps.96:11b
