Alto Street Club Members Create Thanksgiving Baskets for St. Elizabeth's Shelter Kids
A few years back at this time, Aida Gonzales, the Art Director for the Alto Street Club, was giving individual painting lessons to her students. The assignment was, What would you do, where would you be if you had a million dollars? Some of the kids painted planes, cars, clothes, the beach, etc. But one little girl painted a house with herself and her mother in it. When asked why, she simply said, My mommy said that someday we would have a house, so if I had the money I would buy the house for my mom and I to live in.
We realized then that some of the Club members are from homeless shelters and Aida decided to create Thanksgiving baskets to give to the Saint Elizabeth's Shelter. Open Hands donates the baskets for our members to decorate and fill with goodies they made themselves - like: tin ornaments, needlepoint, jewelry, keychains, art supplies, and baked goodies baked by the members' parents. Friday, before Thanksgiving, we deliver about fifteen baskets to the shelter. The members that participate look forward to this every year.

THE GIFT OF TIME
How do you make a kid's day?
SHARE A MOMENT!
CREATE A MEMORY!
So what can you do? Encourage someone to come along with you to one of our Boys & Girls Club sites and get involved. Participate in the lives of our many wonderful members. Your involvement will not only be a blessing to a deserving child, but a blessing for you in return.

In our community, there are hundreds of boys & girls who are left to find their own recreation and companionships in the streets or who spend many hours along with no adult supervision. Many form groups or gangs, become involved with the wrong leaders and eventually find themselves in serious trouble.
Today more young people live in disadvantaged circumstances than ever before. Young people, especially those at greater risk, need responsible adult guidance. They need to know that someone cares about them and that concerned and capable adults are available for them.
THEY NEED THE BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS!
