Spike purred softly and wrapped himself tighter around the warm being in his arms. Night had fallen a few hours ago, and by all rights the vampire should be up by now. The thing was, he couldn’t bear to leave this contented half-daze in which he was warm, comfortable and safely curled around his lover. That and the fact that he was still tired from the rounds last night and an extended bout of lovemaking during the morning and most of the rest of the day. It had been a Saturday, giving the two men time to do as they pleased. During the week Xander was either working, helping the Scoobies, or too tired from either activity to have any random downtime. It was the weekends that kept things together, giving the lovers time to renew and be together.

The master vampire finally gave into his awakened state and opened his eyes. The room was comfortably dark, though even in the daytime heavy draperies stopped most of the sun’s rays from entering. The two men were sprawled in the center of an antique dark-wood bed that Spike had come across in his meanderings. It had once belonged to a rather annoying fledgling, but it know was the property of William the Bloody, as the fledgling had been in no shape to use it once Spike had finished with him. Black sheets gave it the right atmosphere for the odd couple, as well as highlighting Spike’s pallor fetchingly. Of course they were satin, Spike held out and would have no other, claiming that satin increased mobility. After one night on them, Xander had had to agree to the assessment.

Spike looked down at his lover and let a small smile break through. The whelp was beautiful asleep. All of his worries seemed to fall away, leaving the human looking young and innocent. His soft invitingly pink lips were parted, and Spike could just hear the soft puffs of moist breath passing between them. Long black lashes lay against his golden tanned skin and silky black hair framed his face. Spike had to admit that his Xan wasn’t beautiful in the classical sense. His nose was a little too big, and his face was too plain, but there was an impossible sweetness to him. He had an innocent charm that was intoxicating to the hard-edged vampire. To look at Xan, you were compelled to like him, even love him.

Until Xander had come along, Spike wasn’t sure he could love. Yes, he’d loved his dark princess, but it had been a strained, nearly painful love. Not so with Xander, for once Spike felt that he could let go and actually be himself without worrying about his partner loosing respect for him. He loved the whelp, and – rather amazingly the vampire thought - Xander returned his love unconditionally. Even after Spike had finally figured out how to get rid of that blasted chip, Xander had still loved him. Admittedly, the whelp had suckered him into agreeing to kill only what Xander termed 'bad guys', but still...

Spike removed his arm from where it had been thrown across his lover’s hips and caressed his pet’s fine soft hair. Xander murmured appreciatively in his sleep and snuggled closer to his undead lover. The men’s legs became even more hopelessly entangled as Spike returned the gesture. The vampire smiled wryly in the darkness. Here he was, a ruthless master vampire, limiting his killings to suit a mortal lovers tastes. Not only that but he was getting positively poetic laying here and staring at said mortal lover. William had died long ago, and Spike had no real wish to bring him back. But that wasn’t really what was happening, and Spike knew it. It wasn’t a loss of him self, rather it was letting down the bad ass persona every now and then. Preferably when no one was around to see it of course.

Eyelids fluttered, and Spike found himself looking into sleepy doe-brown eyes. They crinkled up at him in dazed bliss, happy to wake to their mate’s ice blue attention. The two men lay there for a few moments, just enjoying the closeness and love between them. Xander shifted to face spike and kissed him softly on the lips, a fleeting caress filled only with unquenchable love. And that was enough.
