~ APOLOGY ~
You gave me your heart
like a polished apple
and being young I bit into it,
letting my teeth
pierce the tight skin
deep into the flesh
while the juices
dripped down between my fingers
Forgive me
It was delicious
and we were both
so young
Poem by Laura Gilpin (1976)
Reading this, as I have so many times over years I am brought to tears.
Not tears of joy of having shared with a loved one,
but tears of pain and guilt for not sharing my true feelings.
I love, but am not in love. I feel but cannot touch.
I have denied us both true passion in life.
FORGIVE ME WE WERE BOTH SO YOUNG
