Faery And Elven Lore
Peasants in the lowlands of Scotland would never use
the word "Faery", instead, they would say "good
neighbor" so as not to offend anyone.
Some feel that not all faeries are tiny, diaphanous
creatures. They might actually be about the same
size as "mortals"--hence the idea that sometimes
human children may be exchanged for children of
the fey. Mortals have also have been known to
be happily married to faeries!
Faery rings are circular areas in the grass, where the
faeries are said to have been dancing. If you run
nine times around a faery ring on a full moon, says
an old legend, you just might be able to hear the faeries
talking. Please keep in mind that this is not to be done
on Beltane or Samhain.
If you haven't already seen faeries, and would
like to, leave the customary offering of milk
and honey (a bit of homemade bread would be
nice) by the back door of your home on the
first day of spring. Send lots of loving energy
around your home (remember, the faeries don't
like discord), and you should have the fortune
of having some faeries start hanging around.
But please, don't forget to keep filling up the
food! You don't want them to get hungry again.
Faeries of course love trees, plants, and flowers.
To make sure you always have the fey around
your home, try planting things they really love!
Examples: Oak trees, Ash trees, Hawthorne
trees, Roses, Primrose, Thyme and Straw
are all suppose to help attract faeries.
However, gorse is suppose to repel them,
you might want to make sure none of that
is growing around!
A Spell For Summoning The Faeries
Sit where the cat sits.
Cross your toes.
Close your eyes.
And smell a rose.
Then say under your breath:
"I believe in fairies,
sure as death."
