Birthstone Mnemonic

By she in January born, no gem save Garnet should be worn;
It shall ensure great constancy, true friendship, and fidelity.

The February born, shall find strength of spirit, peace of mind,
And freedom from much woe and care, if she the Amethyst will wear.

Who in this troubled world, her eyes in March first open, shall be wisw;
In the face of peril, true and brave, by wearing Bloodstone all her days.

She who in April dates her years, shall Diamonds wear, lest bitter tears
For vain repentance flow; this stone betideth innocence, 'tis known.

Whoso first sees the light of day in spring's sweet flowery month of May,
And wears an Emerald all her life, shall be a most beloved wife.

Who finds in June her day of birth, and comes with summer to this earth,
With ring of Agate on her hand can health, wealth, and long life command.

The glowing Ruby shall adorn she who in hot July is born;
Then shall she be exempt and free from fickle love's anxiety.

Without Sardonyx there shall be no conjugal felicity;
For August born, without her stone, 'tis said, shall live unloved, and lone.

A maiden birthed when autumn leaves are rustling in September's breeze,
A Sapphire on her brow should bind; for mickle clarity of mind.

October's child is bound for woe, and life's vicissitudes must know;
But lay an Opal on her breast, and hope will lay those fears to rest.

Who this world cometh first to know with drear November's fog and snow,
Should prize the Topaz' amber hue, symbol of friends and lovers true.

If December's wintery days of mirth herald the timing of her birth,
Place on her hand a Turquoise blue; and success ensure whate'er she do.
