TRY OUT TIPS
- Talk to the coach several months in advance and ask about the requirements so you can start working on your skills (jumps, tumbling) and getting in shape.
- Talk to some of the current cheerleaders and ask them about try-outs. This way, you'll know what's coming and you'll already know someone there!
- Be prepared every day of try-outs. Look clean and neat every day. Smile alot because the coaches are watching you all week, not just the actual try-out day.
- Ask for a copy of the music to the dance so you can practice it at home.
- PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE! Keep motions sharp and make cheesy faces. The more cheese the better!! Watch competitions (they come on TV) and pay attention to their faces. Judges look for good facials.
- Keep make-up simple but a little darker. Glitter looks really good under the bright lights!
- Tie all hair back tightly and neatly
- Tuck shirt in all the way around and make sure clothes are clean and pressed. You want to look your best!
- Wear white shoes that don’t draw a lot of attention.
- When it’s time for tumbling and jumps only do what you know you can do perefectly. Doing a pass/jump that is clean looks better than a hard one that is done poorly.
- Smile at all times in front of the judges, even if you’re not cheering!
- Try to make eye contact with the judges when you're cheering/dancing.
- Don't stop, even if you mess up. Try your best to keep going and not to show it on your face.
- Spirit in and out. Don't be afraid to be loud! You may want to practice spirit saying a little ahead of time like...C'mon! Let's go shs! We're #1. Let's hear it noles! Alright! You got it! Yeah! Get pumped up!, ect...NEVER say wooo. Everyone hates that. No woo woos! :)
- GOOD LUCK!!
