Pokemon: The First Movie

You can get one of four Pokemon cards when you see the movie. Pikachu, Mewtwo, Dragonite, or Mew. Pokemon: The First Movie earned $10.1 million on 2,901 screens, the biggest opening-day gross for an animated film ever. Pokemon crushed the wimpy $4.8 million Toy Story. Phantom Menace holds the record for all films with $28.5 million on its first day. Pokemon is currently not the first movie playing but has been beat by Toy Story 2, but it still holds the best ever first week animation record.
I couldn't believe it when I read the reviews for Pokemon: The First Movie!

"Pokemon is God awful. Bad storytelling. Retrograde animation," opines Newsweek. "In the annals of cinematic warfare," quips the Washington Post, "this listless clash is no competition for The Seventh Samurai."
"The movie ends with the obligatory " andmind-blowingly hypocritical "revelation that fighting is bad," Newsweek says. Seeing as the pocket monsters exist to fight, the review concludes: "The movie is worse."
"Somehow," offers a Newsday review, "such sentiments seem at odds with the acquisitive nature of the phenomenon."

Another kid heard these reviews and decided to do something about it. Fourth Grader, Andrew Curtin wrote a letter to USA Today explaining why he believed the movie deserved a fair shake. He said the movie was intended for kids, and wouldn’t make a lot of sense to those who don’t follow Pokemon, and I agree with him.

Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition

Pokémon Yellow is similar to the Red and Blue versions of the game, but in this edition Professor Oak gives you Pikachu as your first Pokémon. This particular Pikachu doesn't like being cooped up in a Poké Ball, so you can actually see Pikachu as it follows your character on the screen.

You can look at Pikachu whenever you like, and its mood will change depending on how you've been treating it. Check out the Pika Page to learn how to keep your Pikachu happy. Other special features of Pokémon Yellow include:
Pokémon are found in different areas than in the Red and Blue versions

Rival gym leaders use different Pokémon and new battle strategies
Link two Pokémon Yellow cartridges for three new battle modes: Pika Cup,
