Dynastes hercules - Hercules beetle.Rearing Dynastes hercules is very similar to Dynastes neptunus, Dynastes tityus, and Dynastes granti. D. hercules along with D. neptunus are the longest species at up to 170mm. Even a small male imago such as the one pictured is a massive beetle weighing many grams, only the horn is especially small. The larvae of the Hercules beetle have a herculean diet and a few L3 larvae devour handfuls of dog food and rotten wood in a few days. The pupa on the left is newly molted while the pupae on the right is hours from becoming an imago. |
