Inglewood
The town of Inglewood is north of Bendigo along the Calder Highway and is a part
of the Golden Triangle. There have been gold nuggets of considerable size
discovered in the area, the largest being the "Welcome Stranger" found at
Moliagul and weighing 65 kgs. Inglewood was the site of a large gold mining
area which stretches from Dunolly to Kingower, Inglewood and Moliagul
amongst many others, and is still worked today.
Many of the miners came straight from the ship to the diggings. There was,
and still is, a eucalyptus still working in the area, and in the Korong State
Park, there is the well known Melville Caves, which was once the haunt of the
notorius bushranger, Captain Melville.
