Jugiong
Jugiong is on the Murrumbidgee River and is an Agricultural and pastoral area.
The nearest places are, Gundagai 25 miles, S. W. Binalong, 25 Miles N.E.,
Murrumburrah 24 Miles N. and Yass 40 miles E.
Jugiong has a Post office and three hotels--the Jugiong, the Murrumbidgee, and the Bird in the Hand. The surrounding country consists chiefly of box ridges, suitable for grazing purposes, with flats along the river, taken up by settlers and well cultivated." This excerpt was taken from the NSW Gazetteer of 1870.
These days the hamlet is bypassed by the Hume Highway, surviving, with one hotel,
a motel, General Store and Fuel stop, Churches of the Catholic and Anglican faith and
a thriving vegetable growing industry on the flats of the River.
