Great Big Sea

If you haven't heard of them before, you've been living in a locked up basement, eating pancakes slipped underneath the door (Kids In The Hall!!). Darrell Power, Alan Doyle, Bob Hallett, and Sean McCann formed Great Big Sea in 1992, and are still touring and making albums to this very day.

Incase you don't already know, they hail from Newfoundland, Canada. Prior to '92, Sean, Bob, and Darrell formed Rankin St. (The tape is awesome, however, it is extremely hard to locate) They found Alan, and formed Great Big Sea. Since then, they have released 3 Canadian albums, and 1 American album. The Canadian ones are "Great Big Sea", "Up", and "Play". The American release (a collaboration of the three) is called, "Rant and Roar".

On a personal note, their birthdays all take place over four days in May. They are the 20th (Alan), 21st (Darrell), 22nd (Sean), and the 23rd (Bob). And Congratulations to Darrell who recently got married!

GBS tour extensively, but since they live on the other side of our lovely country, they rarely visit the West Coast.

Just this February, they picked up 5 ECMAs (East Coast Music Awards) including Entertainer of the Year, which was fan based.

Their videos include "Run Runaway", "Mari-Mac", "Goin' Up", "When I'm Up", "Ordinary Day", "End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)", and "Lukey/Lukaloney" (which was performed with the Chieftains).

If you're looking for live stuff, try the CBC (Radio 2) because they tend to have live concerts on "Definately NOT the Opera".

Here's a live shot of Bob:

Here's some live shots from the Buffalo show during the summer:

Another encord shot, check out Alan's hat! It's actually Greg Keelor's. It still has the price tag on the back of it.

This is probably my favourite shot of Sean, as I don't have many, because he came over and kneeled on the speakers right infront of my sister and I and made a face:

And here's another shot of Sean looking the happiest I have ever seen him in concert:
