It is essential that you know what your rights are when you go into a family court courtroom, especially when it is a courtroom where your children's futures are at stake.

The trend with some individuals today is to enter a courtroom representing themselves. This creates a problem for some of these people and for the courts and judges that they face as most times these persons do not know the laws they work under. Most individuals that end up in a court representing themselves are at that point because they have either ran out of money to afford legal counsel, legal aid will not assist them or they have had a bad experience with legal counsel.

If you intend to represent yourself in a custody and access case be sure you get the information you need to enter a courtroom to defend yourself. You should get as much legal information as possible and this can be done by either going to a local college that has a legal library where you can get access to legal information. You could also check to see if there is a barristers library in your local court that access is allowed to to prepare your case. Most law librarys have the books you are looking for as well as books on case law.

In presenting a case to a family court you need to know the acts and rules of the family courts. You need to educate yourself on these acts and rules. With every Act there is a set of rules that go with the Act.
