The Narcissus is a shuttlecraft and lifeboat as seen in the movie
'Alien'.
The model was built mostly from out of the box and as per the instructions.
I also added some small bits and pieces of styrene for detail. The four
rear engines and the two forward thrusters were drilled out and replaced with
brass tubing in the same diameter. If you were to compare the kit detail to
the detail on the studio model, you would be amazed at how close they are to
each other.
The whole model was first painted
Flat White. I then airbrushed the forward half with Light Gray and then with a darker
gray in corners and around small detailed areas. Flat Black was then used very carefully around deep recesses,
vents and exhausts.
The whole
model was then given a couple coats of Clear Gloss in preparation
for decals and a wash. This was my first attempt at a wash so I had my fingers crossed and was very satisfied at the outcome. The decals went
on OK but I ruined one of the 'E1' markings above the cockpit area so I
decided to leave it as is.
The studio model had what seems to be some nose art just in front of
the cockpit glass so I decided to add this as well. It was then given a couple
of coats of Clear Flat, allowed to dry and then added some dry brushing
to enhance the nice surface detail and then finished off with another coat of
Clear Flat.
The finished model represents the vessel as it looked upon being picked up
by a Deep Salvage Team, ending its 57 year voyage.
