The Halifax Metro Centre is a large arena complex located in downtown Halifax at the mouth of Citadel Hill. The Metro Centre seats approx 10,250 people. Metro Centre techncians can convert a basketball court to a hockey rink in 1 hour 45mins. In 1995 and 1996, Facilities Magazine awarded the Halifax Metro Centre with it's Prime Site Award, recognizing it as one of the top entertainment venues in all of North America. The Metro Centre is home to the Halifax Mooseheads (named after the beer,) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In the year 2000, Halifax will play host to the 2000 Memorial Cup. Some popular events the Metro Centre has hosted include : NHL hockey games, NBA basketball games and musical acts ranging from Garth Brooks, Celine Dion , Metallica and the Backstreet Boys all within the last 4 years.
