Short Writings

This is gonna be a place for blobs and junk that I've written, or that someone
has submitted, should anyone want to. Feel free to submit something if you like.

Anyways, this first one comes from a dream I had last night (03/03/03...kool date,
huh?). I've had to fill in a lot of blanks, since I don't remember it well,
but I hope you like it.

"So what are you hoping to find, professor?" Tracy asked. This was her first dig,
and she was very excited. However, nothing of real importance had shown up as of
yet. "A mummy, dinosaurs....spaceships?"
"Actually," the professor replied, "I've heard a story that there was a girl
here who was burried in a glass case...burried alive, possibly." Everyone sat up
just then. The professor was full of old folk-tales and legends, at least one for
every dig site he worked on. This one promised to be most interesting. The
professor, a middle-aged man who was in great shape, seemed to pick up on this
expectation, and was quick to dissapoint. "Unfortunately, I don't know much about
what was supossed to have happened here, but I was hoping to find something
related to the story, though that isn't the main reason we're here."
"What is the main reason, then?" asked Chad, an graduate student who was also
on his first real dig.
"Oh, simply to learn more about the history of this area," the professor replied.
"There hasn't been a lot of archealogical studies done in this area, so anything we
could find could tell us a lot."
Just then, Tracy found herself fighting a yawn. "I think I'll pack it in now,
it's getting late, and we have to get up early again tomorrow. G'night all!"
However, back in her tent, Tracy found herself unable to sleep, her mind
returning again and again to that girl. Who was she? Does she really exist? What
happened here? And most importantly...what if they accutally found her? With that
thought resting uncomfortably in here thoughts, Tracy finally managed to sleep.

The next day, everyone got up, had breakfast, then rosters for the day were
assigned and everyone got to work. Tracy found herself working alone on an
area near the outskirts of the dig area. She was tempted to ask if Chad could
work with her, but he was studying a different field of work than Tracy, so she
didn't bother. Normally, she didn't mind working alone, but for some reason,
today she found herself extremely nervous working. Her thoughts kept returning
to that girl, and what would happen if she found her? Then Tracy told herself not
to worry and get on with her work. But she just couldn't.
Later in the morning, Chad came over for a visit.
"Found anything interesting yet?" he asked. Despite working in a
different field, he was always eager to learn new things. Tracy liked that
about him.
"No, nothing yet, except for a few odd-looking coins." She stopped for a
second to wipe the sweat off her brow.
   "You mean like that one?"
Tracy looked where he was pointing. There, in the dirt, was a copper coin that
had been wrapped around to form a circle.
"Yeah, like that. You've got some sharp eyes there. Sure you're in the
right field of study?"
"Yeah, I don't think I'd be happy doign anything other than what I am right
now. Anyways, I should get back to work, see ya!" And with that, he started
trotting back to camp.
Tracy got on with her work, and almost immediately she hit something solid.
Intrigued, she brushed away the dirt with her hands. Whatever it was, it seemed
to be made of glass. She quickly bushed away the rest of the dirt, and looked down.
She saw the face and screamed.
