(Also Known As Trying To Piece Together Logan's Past)

World War Two Years(1939 - 1945)

June 6, 1944 - Wolverine 34

A flash from the past courtesy of RCMP Sgt. Doolin. On the trail of a fugitive, he and his partner come across Logan, who is camping in the Buffalo Woods State Park in Northern Alberta. Logan never gives them his name, but Doolin mentions that there's something about his face that 'rings a bell'.

Logan offers to pitch in on tracking the fugitive, who had killed a family and kidnapped their daughter. It's during the pursuit that Logan's actions and voice keep triggering Doolin's memories of his younger days - and parachuting over Normandy.

Parachuting down on a moonless night has its advantages - avoiding trees isn't one of them. Both Doolin and the corporal get tangled in the trees. Doolin makes the mistake of using his lighter to try and see how far they are from the ground - all he manages to do is to alert a nearby Nazi patrol to their position.

The Nazi patrol were from the 21st Panzer-Grenadiers - prepared for about anything except a beserk Canuck with a knife. The corporal charging at them startled them enough that he managed to get in the middle of them before they quite realized what was going on.

It's after Doolin is fatally wounded that he makes the final connection. Logan is too busy with the combination of a fugitive killer, the kidnapped girl and the Hunter in the Darkness to be listening, but Doolin says, "Wait! How can this be? Th-this stranger also has the voice of the Corporal! They can't all be the same! C-can they? The last time I saw the Corporal he was -- Omigod! I remember! That awful, horrible sound!!"

What he was remembering was himself still tangled up in the trees watching and listening to what the Corporal was doing to that Nazi patrol. And it wasn't pretty.

Logan returns with the kidnapped girl to where he left Doolin just in time to catch the last of Doolin's memory rambling as he dies. Leaving Logan with an unanswered quesion - "How did he know my name?"
