Many of her people might have been believers that the man that came down on the Ultralite was a 'son of Heaven', but Gahck was less impressed and decided to fight to see if Logan was or wasn't a worthy warrior. She was fully covered enough that apparently his sense of smell couldn't identify her to him as a woman - at any rate, he wasn't out to kill. But he was the first who'd ever been able to defeat Gahck in combat and that won him the position of chieftain. |
Despite her defeat, Gahck never did buy into the 'son of Heaven' ideas about Logan that the rest of her tribe had. For one thing, she never quite got over the fact of how someone so strong could be so short. When Gahck directly said to him "You are no god, but a man!" - Logan told her "I never claimed I was one, Darlin'. But I am the toughest mother in the valley tonight.." Logan told her the story of what brought him to the Savage Land - and though a lot of what he told her was beyond her comprehension, she accepted his story and claimed her place at his side. |
The trail Logan was on had led to the tribe and no further, so for a time, he lived with the tribe and won acceptance among them for his fighting prowess after he killed a dinosaur bare-handed - the others had accepted him as chief until then because of their belief that he was the son of Heaven, but after that they accepted him fully into the tribe. During his rebirth celebration, Gahck rather emphatically laid claim to him. |
A dinosaur cyborg attack on the tribe gave Logan his trail again. For the whole story, check out the graphic novel Wolverine: The Jungle Adventure. In a nutshell, Gahck follows along after Logan despite his intention to go in alone and manages to toss him the means to free himself from Apocalypse. |
The Savage Land cyborg experiment area shut down permanently, Logan heads back for home, leaving Gahck to resume her position of tribal chief. End of story? Not quite. |
As Piotr did with the Fall People, so Logan also left more of himself behind than just memories. Will his son/daughter from the Savage Land show up in a future story? With Marvel, there's no telling. |
