Rest In Peace

Saint Elmo aka Keeper of the Northern Lights

Death In: Alpha Flight Special - Issue 1, Volume 2, June, 1992

"I was afraid of this! It's one thing being confident, but Saint Elmo's plain cocky! That's the trouble with these godly types... outta touch with their own mortality." (Logan - Alpha Flight Special, Issue 1, Volume 2)

One of the first four members of six-member group known only as The Flight, Saint Elmo was far too confident that he could meet and defeat anyone that came against - instead of immediately engaging and taking care of an opponent, he would be more likely to take his time. But when it came to a real fight situation with lives on the line, it was an approach that meant Wolverine had to divert his attention during a crucial point in the fight to come to Elmo's aid.

When Smart Alec folded under a real-life pressure situation, the team was stuck next to a live nuclear missile about to explode - and take them with it. With the team being out of options, Elmo chose to strain his abilities to past their limits and used his powers to convert the missile and nuclear materials to light and absorb them into himself even as the weapon exploded. The light was too intense for any of the team to actually witness but all of them were swept over by a feeling of sheer euphoria and heard a booming that could have been a giant's laughter as the Northern Lights brightened.
