Rest In Peace

Moira MacTaggart

Death In: X-Men - Issue 108, January, 2001

"For Moira, a solitary piper. He had played a welcome the night of her birth and after life's end, sent her gently on her way." (Uncany X-Men, Issue 389)

Logan met Moira for the first time when the rest of the X-Men did - right after the death of John Proudstar (Uncanny X-Men, Issue 96) when Xavier brought her in as their 'housekeeper'. He seemed to like her from the start - she was about the only person in the school at that time that he called by her actual name and considering at that time, his relationships with the other X-Men were very abrasive, that seems to have been showing some respect for her. Maybe it's because he could sense the strong woman she was -- maybe it's because a few minutes after meeting, he saw her handling an M-16 like a pro.

Not to say, of course, that the two always got along. Put two people with equally strong will in the same vicinity long enough and some conflict is practically inevitable. But Logan's always had a high amount of respect for any woman with the nerve to face him nose to nose, so Moira generally won these battles by default when he backed down.

Logan was by Moira's side when her body slipped away as he, Rogue and Bishop were trying to rush her to medical aid after the conflict on Muir Island (the 'Dream's End' storyline). Moira leaves behind a hole that is likely to be second only to the hole that Xavier will leave in his passing. Kinross heir. Clan chieftain. Nobel laureate. Mentor. Confidant. Friend.
