Rest In Peace

Reiko

Death In: Wolverine #57 - Late July 1992

Reiko: "The dead man! He rises!"
Logan: "Someone.. is gonna... pay!"
Reiko: "Please! Don't--"
Logan: *sniff* "Flower. You?"
Reiko: "Yes. I left the flower."
(Wolverine #33)

Some might wonder why I'd put Reiko in the 'Rest in Peace' section rather than 'Rest in Pieces'. While she did cause Logan probably the worst loss of his life, it wasn't intentional. Their lives became interlocked in a way that went from bad to worse and each changed the life of the other more than they ever intended. Reiko was owned by a Yakuza named Goro, who had bought her as part of the deal of paying off Reiko's father's massive gambling debts. Goro was hired by Dai-Kumo to kill Patch aka Logan and Reiko viewed Logan as one who had the power to kill Goro - and end his hold on her.

Reiko and Logan only spoke together once despite their effect on each other's lives. And that was at the side of Logan's 'grave'. Logan sparing Reiko's life in the graveyard ironically sealed both of their fates.

Not that all of it was for the bad. Reiko thought she was free for a time - until the Hand came to call to collect on a obligation. Still, through Reiko, Jubilee survived the orders of Lord Matsuo (Hand ruler) that called for her death.

The final twist came when Reiko went to Mariko with an offer from Lord Matsuo - and a poisoned blade. Mariko was already dying from the poison when Reiko discovered the connection between her and Logan. The poison had no antidote, so Reiko atoned in the only way she saw left to her - she took her own life using Silver Samurai's black blade.
