Chapter 17

“Sir—.” The tall SIP in charge of security stood, blocking Felines way. Intentionally or not, it annoyed him.
“Yes?” He replied dryly.
The man looked down a little nervously. “It’s about the agent in isolation 12—she’s loosing it sir.”
Finch tried to register that. It took him a while. The truth of it was that he hadn’t slept for 3 days, and his memory was getting a little undependable.
“Agent 73 sir.”
“What were your orders regarding that agent?” Finch demanded.
“I know sir, but she’s doing weird things. She just punched the wall, hard. I think she’ll need medical attention.”
“Your orders agent.”
The SIP signed, “To ignore what ever she did, Sir.”
“And no buts agent.” Feline said firmly, “She needs to be taught a lesson.” He added flatly, walking away from the SIP.

“If I see another pizza, I’m gonna be really sick.” Nick groaned, moving away from the table and collapsing onto the couch.
26 looked from him to the empty boxes of pizza on the table. “I suggest you clean up Mr Carter.”
“I will, I promise I will.” He muttered.
“Now.”
Swearing, Nick got up and picked up his pizza box and mess.
26 signed inwardly. The past four days had been nothing short of hell. The men had simply refused to accept her authority. Richardson and Thomas had even gone as far as nearly getting themselves killed earlier that day. What was worse was that Carter had followed their examples like a fool and he was the one who would have ended up dead if she hadn't noticed.
“When you’re finished Mr Thomas, I’d like to speak with you, Mr Richardson and Mr Carter.” Thomas paled visibly at her request.
At that point all the others seemed to remember things they had to do, or the sleep they still had to catch up on-at 8 pm- and seemed to disappear. Richardson glared at them as they passed him.
“Well, seems like it’s just us gentlemen.” She said with a tight smile. “So. Mr Richardson, you decided to disobey me again.”
“I did what I thought best.” He said simply, avoiding her eyes. He had no desire to die any time soon.
“Disobeying me always seems like the right thing to do to you.” She replied curtly. She slowly walked over to where they were sitting, “And you Mr Thomas, I really thought more highly of you. Did you at anytime worry about the safety of your clients?” She didn’t give him a chance to reply. “And you Mr Carter. Words could not begin to describe what I think of your actions, to follow Thomas and Richardson like a sheep!”
Nick’s eyes blazed with her comment. “I only do what I want to do!” He snapped defensively.
“Really MR Carter, you could try to be more original.” She said brushing past his comment, “That was the same excuse you used yesterday.” She said disgusted. “Get out of my site.” The three almost ran to the stairs. “Not you Mr Thomas.” She added dryly.
Thomas dropped his head and watched the two run up, leaving him alone with the ice queen.
26 studied the shaking man silently. Cold eyes, like dark stones piercing trough him. They might even have been stones for all the emotion they betrayed.
“You can’t control them agent. Not now not ever. You don’t have their respect, and the way I see it you’re not likely to get it either.”
“Mr Thomas you are in position to tell me how to deal with a bunch of scared boys. I am a well trained agent—.”
“You’re trained to use guns and handle criminals! They are neither. Face it agent, they are gonna drive you insane. Why don’t you just drop this case and let us alone.”
26 glanced at him amused, “You’re right, they’re not criminals, They’re something worst.” The more seriously she continued, “How many times have I saved your band from certain death in the last 4 days?”
Somewhat reluctantly Thomas did his sums. “Do I have to account for you stopping Nick and Aj from over feeding themselves?”
26 thought about all the pizzas the two had been trying to consume. “Yeah I think you should.”
Thomas signed, “And stopping Brian from getting run over by that truck?”
“Probably.”
“18 times.”
“Do we have an understanding here?”
Thomas nodded ruefully.
“Good.”
“But I’m sure—.”
“You’re not sure about anything, Mr Thomas.” 26 snapped moving to the window, “Soon you’re going to doubt the colour of the sun.”

The sensors on the wall again picked up the vibration of the impact as the agent's fist collided with it. James looked at the screen for a measurement of the impact.
Too high.
The agent was trowing some heavy punches. He turned to the SIP standing behind him. “How long has she been doing this for?”
“Started yesterday.”
“Have you told my father about it?”
The SIP nodded. “He told me to shut up—In a more diplomatic term offcourse.”
SECURITY INTRRUPTION…ALERT ALERT SECURITY INTRRUPTION…”
The room became a dark cube before lighting up again moments later. “What the hell was that from?”
James looked at the screen. “Some one’s tried to enter the building.” Then a small flashing alert caught his eyes. As he read it, he heard the man behind him swear.

73 turned her back on the punishing water, leaving her already bruised back take the pain again. She made the mistake of raising her head. The freezing water poured down her neck, making her chock from it’s frosty touch.
The water wasn’t stopping, neither was the pain. 73 fought to stay conscious. She wasn’t going to let them see her faint. She wasn’t about to let anyone know what her limit was.
The pain was still there. 73 thought that she heard a sound, besides the sound of the rushing water. A soft at first, then it got louder. The sound was followed by a sudden burst of light that made 73 cry out in pain. She felt a soft, warm towel fall over her and arm pulling her away. She gave into it then, whether sleep or death she wasn’t sure, one thing was certain though, either were welcomed just then.

The first thing she noticed was the light. It was the faintest glow, but still it was light. There was also pain of course, 73 could feel the bandages tied tightly around her hand, and shoulder. She watched the light again, its blue glow in the dark room.
“Good, you’re awake.” Heck observed stepping up next to 73, “How are we feeling?”
73 resisted the urge to retort, “Alive Doctor, alive.” She said, almost to herself.
He smiled down at her with sympathy, and turned the light on a little brighter. 73 couldn’t see where the light was coming from, but its blue rays stung her eyes.
73 swallowed. Why had she been let out? Was 26 dead? Were the men?
“When did I get out?” She inquired the Doctor. He was changing the glucose bag attached to her arm, 73 was suddenly very aware of her empty stomach.
”You got out last night.” The man supplied simply.
“Why?” 73 crocked, her throat was dry and she could feel the skin peeling on her lips. She could also taste…blood?
The doctor frowned. “Would you have rather died in there girl? Or worst, you could have gone insane!” He scolded. 73 closed her eyes. “Don’t do that. I want your eyes to adjust to the light before you get dismissed.
“Are they dead?” 73 asked hope twinkling in her sunken eyes.
“No, of course not! 26 has done a fine job keeping them alive." He said. He was silent for a few moments after that, then lowering his voice he said, “Some one tried to get into the building last night, killed most of security, reset most of our system as well. Just watch your step around Felin, he’s decided that if he had, had both agents on the job this, he would have had the offender dead by now.”
“Wonderful.” She muttered bitterly. She was put into isolation, and she still had to go and baby-sit the boy band. “Is it possible I could stay sick a little longer?” She begged the doctor.
“Sorry 73, Felin wants you out there as soon as possible.”
