Jess,73 , 26 and Emily were waiting at Queen Victoria’s statue in front of the QVB. Rebecca as usual, was 10 minutes late. This seemed to irritate 73 to the extreme.
“Give it a rest Yaz. She’ll be here soon. You know how she is.” Jess snapped.
73 frowned. “No Jess I don’t know how she is. Three weeks isn’t quiet long enough for me to have learnt all of bec’s bad habits.”
“Speaking of the devil…I think that’s her coming.” Emily said.
“I’m so sorry guys the—“
“I’m gonna kill you. I’m really gonna kill you!”
Every one laughed at 73’s remark, evry one except for 26. “Let’s get to HMV so Yaz can get her CD or she’ll chuck one of her tantrums.”
“Hey that’s not fair!.” Yaz snapped and managed to blush.
They walked trough the crowded streets, trying to complain about school over the noise.
“What’s going on here? “ Rebecca asked, observing the decorations out side the HMV store.
“The Backstreet boys are supposed to be here at one.” Jess offered.
“Well?”
“Well what?” Jess wailed trying to hide from 26’s piercing gaze.
“Well where are the crowds?”
Jess shrugged, “I dunno.”
”I swear I can hear them, but I can’t see them…”
“Well while you people are debating I’ll go get my CD.” With that 73 walked away and into the shop.
“It’s really bugging me…” 26 muttered, leaning against a pole.
“Give it a break Erin, you’re not the secret intelligence , you don’t need to know everything.” Emily said pulling out a mirror and checking her hair.
26 smiled weakly. If only they knew
The thought hadn’t finished crossing her mind, when a limo pulled up in front of 26. The door swang open and a wall walked out.
“You move it.” The man grabbed 26 and threw her so she landed a good meter away next to a broken bottle. Pain jolted trough her side, but she kept her expression clear of it.
“Hey watch it. What do you think you’re doing?” Emily snapped as all three girls ran to their friends side.
“I’m okay guys really.” Erin assured them as they helped her to her feet.
“Hey you bully, what the fuck do you think you’re doing?” 73 yelled suddenly running out of the shop, having seen the event.
“Yaz calm down” Rebecca pleaded with her.
A blond head appeared from the vehicle, followed by others.
73 recognised them.
“What’s the problem?” The blond asked casually.
“Your mate here pushed my friend over for no reason.”
“She was in the way.” A lanky tattooed man, with dark shades— which 73 noticed he arranged carefully on his nose— said taking a look around the quiet foot path.
”Who the hell do you think you are?” 73 yelled, “I could get you to court for that!”
Emily grabbed the front of 73’s shirt and pulled her away. ”They are physically much ,much, much bigger than you, so don’t be aggressive.”
73 pouted.
“I wonder where all the fans are?”
“In hell rotting I hope.” 73 muttered a little louder than she should have. The men gave her grave glances. “If there is anything wrong with her I’ll have you bastards in court before you can find your barrister’s number.” She added in a an unnaturally harsh voice. .
Suddenly the ground started shaking (Ok now you can tell I’ve watched too many movies, a little exaggerated perhaps but helps get the message across.) and strange inhuman cried filled the air. A wave of girls in high heels , carrying banners and cameras, was flowing towards them.
“Come on guys in we go.” One of the body guards urged them and the rest followed suit, one of them though remained outside.
“Guys we cross the road now.” Rebecca ordered.
” No way am I going to cross…” Rebecca grabbed Jess and Emily and dragged them across the road, followed by 73 and 26.
Emily was close to tears, “ GO I can’t believe I let you,” She pointed at Rebecca, “ Drag me across the road.” Then she critically checked all the joints, “Seems like I’m still in one piece. I suppose I have to say thankyou now.”
“Don’t bother. You might pull a muscle trying to.” Rebecca chided.
“Guys…” Jess said a little reluctantly. She swallowed, “Guys I can’t see the body guard anymore.”
They all followed her gaze. 73 shrugged. “Maybe he went inside.” She suggested. Hatred flashed across her face as she spoke.
“Well lets get moving. I plan to enjoy the rest of my day.” Rebecca said and started walking.
Despite the warmth of the day 26 pulled her jumper on.
”Well? Have a look through it detective. That’s what you’re being paid to do.” Nick snapped at the man. He disliked him. Even more than he disliked the new bodyguards.
“Brian spared his friend a small glance, “What’s wrong man? Calm down.”
Nick grunted and sank further into his seat.
With a twinkle of amusement in his eyes, Detective Heins opened the wallet. It belonged a female, not that he had expected otherwise, he pulled out the ID card in the wallets front pocket. He held it up to the men, “She look familiar?”
“That’s the girl John pushed over today at the CD store.” Howie said.
Kevin nodded in agreement ”Oh yeah, the one with the lawyer friend. If she didn’t look like she was gonna kill me I would have pulled her cheeks.”
Heins snatched the card away before the others had a chance to see it. He found an address and some pictures, key card library card…he set the photos onto the table in front of them, “Recognise any of them?”
The men looked down at the photos, and tried their best to identify the other four girls. Three of them they managed to agree on ,but there were no pictures of the fourth.
“Well then, I just go collect a couple of officers and collect the girls for questioning.” Heins informed them Then he stopped, “Explain what happened to me one more time.
“What’s there to tell again?” A.j snapped irritated, “We got to HMV, there were no fans cause they were all waiting for us at the back door— Anyway , then John got out, moved that girls out of the way, her friend came out and started abusing us. That was when the fans appeared, we ran in, John waited out side and the next thing we know the five girls are across the road and John’s dead” He picked up a packet of cigarettes, and lit one.” Bloody mess were in , wouldn’t you say?” Then he gave a little bitter chuckle.
”Mr Heins,” Thomas said getting up, “I would appreciate it if we could keep the details of these events quiet and under control. We know your way is gonna be noisy so I suggest we try mine…”
