Pooh's Paintings

I am not a professional artist. This is just a very enjoyable hobby for me (one I have been neglecting for quite some time unfortunately).

Recently, I was surprised to note when I looked at the date on one of my early paintings, that I started almost 10 years ago. Life has offered too many interesting challenges though, so I have only actually painted about three of those ten years.

Although I paint a variety of subjects, water, old homes and fences are among my favorites. I have been saying for a while now that I would do a page with some of my paintings, so I finally managed to photograph and scan a few. I would love to hear from any other artists out there!

This is a painting of one of my favorite areas in Nova Scotia. It is the inner harbour at Big Island.

The medium is oils on a 12"x16" canvas

I painted this as a gift for my sister, and she loved it but found it looked lonely because there was no wildlife in it. So if you look really closely in the lower right hand corner, you will find two Evening Grossbeaks that I added so it wouldn't make her feel sad.

Hint: one is on the bush, the other is on the ground.

This one is titled "Black Brook Birches".

It was my first attempt at painting birch trees. The path in the picture goes around the corner to a surprising and beautiful waterfall.

It is a 12"x16" oil on canvas.

I don't paint flowers too often, but I did this one for myself.

It is a Rhododendrum still on the tree. It is one of the few paintings I still own.

It is a 14"x18" oil on canvas.

This is a painting of the home of a dear friend of mine. Her husband took a position in The Northwest Territories which would be the same as you being transferred to Alaska! Both she and her husband were coworkers at the same company I work with, so a group got together and commissioned me to do this painting for them so they could take their beloved home with them.

The medium is oils on a 16"x20" canvas

It was a labour of love, but had to be completed and framed in one week! Needless to say, I didn't do much else that week! LOL

This last one is one of my favorites. It is also one of the largest I have painted at 24"x36".

I love old fences. This is a place in Ontario we love to visit. It is an old farm. The fence is at least forty years old and made of cedar which is abundant in Ontario. We do not have fences of this type in Nova Scotia.

I looked out the window one morning to see early morning fog settled on the fields and the sunflowers contrasting against the cedar fencing. I ran with my camera and just as I was taking the photograph, one of Fred's cows emerged from the mist to see what I was doing. I couldn't resist making him part of the painting as well.

I always appreciate comments or suggestions on my work.
