Chapter Seventeen

Building Bridges

I threw my bag to the floor and fell back on my bed. Nick had taken me to Disneyland and I was ready for sleep. Since starting over I had seen a lot less of Kerry and a lot more of Nick. Since ‘that day’ Kerry and Nick hadn’t talked, which I thought was my fault.

“Hey Ella,” Kerry said, sitting on the edge of my bed.

“Hi Kez. What have you been up to today?”

“AJ came round this morning, now I’m bored.”

“I’m sorry Kerry,” I said, taking off my cap.

“Sorry? What for?”

“All this. Me coming here wasn’t quite how we planned.”

“That’s not your fault hunny,” she smiled.

“It is. I messed up everything with Nick,” I sat up, “please come out with us tomorrow, you and AJ?”

“I don’t know El. I mean me and Nick are hardly the best of friends at the moment.”

“I’ll talk to him,” I insisted, “please Kerry. It would be so much better if we were friends.” She sighed,

“Okay, but if we have any arguments I’m going home.”

“Thank you,” I smiled as she left the room. Yes, finally I can have the perfect holiday.

“Nick, come on. Please?” He was cleaning out his pool whilst I was trying to persuade him about going out with Kerry and AJ.

“Ella, I really don’t want to.” I watched him as he continued round the pool, admiring the tanned skin on back. He was quite muscular, toned from touring, I thought, as he bent down to scrape out a few leaves.

“Please?” He looked up, squinting as the Florida sun bore down on him. Man, he is gorgeous! I thought.

“Ella, is it really that important to you?” I nodded, he smiled back. A smile that made my stomach flip and heart beat faster. “Okay.” I screamed and ran over to him.

“Thank you” I kissed him and let my hands travel down his warm back.

“Ella, what are you doing?” Nick laughed. “Aaron and Angel are in the house.”

“So? I was only touching you.” I backed away, pretending to be hurt. “I won’t do it again.”

“Hey,” he said, grabbing my arm. “I didn’t say I didn’t like it!”

“Well then,” I grabbed his waist and kissed him again.

“So where are we going?” Nick asked, resting his chin on my shoulder, the next morning.

“I thought we could spend the day at the beach,” I answered, turning to face him. He wrapped his arms around me.

“That sounds good.” He buried his face in my hair, “mmm, you smell good.” I laughed and pushed him away.

“Come on, let’s go.” Kerry and AJ were waiting out front, already having packed towels and food into the car. “Let’s hit the beach,” I said, jumping into the passenger seat.

“Hey,” Nick said, “aren’t you gonna sit with me?”

“Nope. I have to sit next to AJ. You and Kerry got the back.” AJ laughed and jumped in the drivers seat. (note: apparently AJ doesn’t have his license , but hey, it’s a story!) Nick groaned as he joined Kerry.

“Hey, this isn’t what I want either.” She said.

“Shut up the both of you.” I said, turning round in my seat, “Please try and get along, or AJ might have to let you walk to the beach!”

The beach wasn’t very busy, even though it was a beautiful day. I laid down my towel and laid down to catch some rays.

“Aren’t you coming in?” Kerry asked, grabbing AJ’s hand.

“Nope not yet.” I said, closing my eyes.

“Nick, how about you?” AJ said.

“Yep, I’ll be there in a sec.” He watched as AJ and Kerry walked to the sea, hand in hand. He laid down next to me, his head propped up on his hand, so he could look over me.

“What?” I laughed, after he had been staring at me for a few moments.

“Just looking at you,” he answered, pushing my hair away from my face.

“I thought you were going for a swim.” I said, turning my face towards him.

“Why don’t you come?”

“No thanks.”

“Why not?” Nick continued, caressing the back of my neck.

“Nick I just don’t want to.” I smiled, “maybe later.”

“Okay,” he pecked me on the lips and ran towards the water.

My eyes sprung open as cold water began to drip on my stomach.

“Nick!” I said, sitting up.

“Yes?” he replied innocently.

“Quit it.” He laughed and sat down next to me.

“Ella you are so beautiful.” I felt myself blush and he laid a hand on my cheek, “even more so when you’re embarrassed.” He kissed me, stopping any response I may have had. As he released me I struggled to catch my breath. I could still feel the touch of his lips on mine and I shivered as the sensation caused by his touch traveled down my body. “Are you cold?” Nick asked, looking concerned.

“No, I’m fine.” He smiled, but still moved behind me, wrapping his arms around my waist. “Nick you’re wet, therefore I will get cold.” He laughed,

“Well when that happens, I’m sure I’ll think of a way to warm you up.”

“How are things with Kerry?” I heard him sigh as he gently kissed my neck.

“Okay, I guess. I mean we’re talking, but it’s still… awkward.” I grasped his hands in mine.

“Thank you for trying.” I stood up, “it means a lot to me.” I turned and looked down the beach. “Come on,” I said, turning back to him. “Let’s go for a walk.” He took my hand and we walked slowly in the direction of the rocks. The sky was clear and I smiled to see that there was no visible sign of rain…. Wonder how things are in England?
