Flea Market action continues here, with another great haul from the month of June. I still can’t get over the luck that I seem to be having lately. Don’t believe me? Scroll down, and set you faces to stunned!
June 11, 2005
Action Figures - $1
Let’s see here, we’ve got Shredder, Buzzard Man, a Flipping Donatello, and Talking Michaelangelo. I really only wanted Shredder, but the guy threw in the others as he didn’t have change. I remember the Talking Turtles being the talk of the Elementary school, with rumors flying that they would start swearing after so many rotations of their usual Cowabunga or Turtle Power. Man kids are gullible.
Spiderman N64 Game - $1
This still doesn’t make any sense. These twelve year olds were selling their video games, and when asked how much they wanted, their prices were insane. One and two dollars for N64 and Game Boy games, and three for Game Cube games. We wasted no time in snatching up everything. I’m sure their parents were pleased. Its funny because we asked if they had any regular Nintendo games, and they thought we were talking about N64. Kids today! Anyway, the game itself seems pretty good, and more than worth the price I paid.
WWE Ring with Kurt Angle and Hurricane Figures - $3
For this price, I really couldn’t pass it up. Besides, I had already missed an ’85 WWF ring earlier in the day, so this made up for it. This now makes 6 wrestling rings that I have in total, so I could have one intense Wargames match. Anyway, I grabbed a snack after I took the above picture, and when I came back I found this going on. Is this just an isolated incident? Or does it tell of things to come? Stay tuned!

Super Mario Bros. 3 Video - $2
This was probably my favorite of all of the Mario cartoons. No annoying Cavemen, and lots of Koopa Kids. Man they were great. I’m telling you, after all these years, SMB3 is still one of my all-time favorite games. Anyway, this was the first purchase of the day, and really set the tone for a successful day.
Fat Frenchy Food Fighter - $1
Another participant in the never-ending battle between the Kitchen Commandos and the Refrigerator Rejects. Sadly, this was not a popular war, thus it did not garner the same attention as a G.I. Joe or Transformers conflict. Still, Food Fighters were an interesting line, and one that always caught my attention. So it came as no surprise that I jumped at the chance to pick one up. Its funny, cause the seller thought it was some sort of squeak toy, to which I responded, I hope my dog doesn’t feel the same way.
Cobra H.I.S.S. and Hydro-Sled. Crimson Guard, Airborne, and Footloose - $15
This was just an incredible table. G.I. Joes are far as the eye could see. And with reasonable prices to boot. I’m getting close to having all of the Joes that appeared on the TV shows. And its always great to get more Crimson Guards. After all, if I don’t, who will the Joes beat up?
Janine V2 Figure - $1
Its about time I found a Janine figure that wasn’t missing her skirt. Imagine Janine going out on a Ghostbusting mission without her skirt. Venkman would probably drive Ecto-1 off the road, and the ghosts would have a field day with crude remarks and double entendres. Thankfully that won’t happen on my watch. Also, does it look like she stole Egon’s glasses? Quit staring at me, Janine, you’ve got the bug eyes!
Bam Bam Bigelow Figure - $3
I’ve never actually seen a Bigelow figure in this good condition. Man I still can’t believe that referee counted him out at WrestleMania IV.
Comics - $16
Wow, comics! I’m as shocked as you are. Today, we have issues of Amazing Spiderman, X-Factor, Falcon, Marvel Team Up and Marvel Two In One. Sadly I passed on an iffy issue of Uncanny X-Men #138 once the guy got his Wizard out.
Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time - $10
I have always had a special place in my heart for this classic, as its always brought me good luck. For example, I rented it in 1996, and not only did Ma pick up Pizza Hut (which we never usually bought), but there was also a snow day the next day, giving me an extra day of March Break. It should be noted that while I didn’t get this at a flea market, I did defeat Nick at Rock/Paper/Scissors to earn the right to purchase it. That’s good enough for me!

Record Player - $5
Finally, I have a record player to go with all of my 80s records. I think I was in the flea market for about 30 seconds when I spotted this beauty, and immediately scooped it up, fearing that I would miss out like I have in the past.
Darth Maul Lightsabre - $2
I never did understand why they killed Maul off in the first movie. Still, his double-ended Lightsabre was pretty cool. It really startled Dok when I first whipped it out. I still have to get used to using it, as you can see below.
Double Dragon, Turtles II, and Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey - $13
I have always been a big fan of Double Dragon, keeping in mind that I was never very good at the game. I picked this up at the same table that Nick bought Super Mario RPG for $3! As if that wasn’t crazy enough, he later went back and bought a box of 24 NES and SNES games for $25! Turtles II was THE game at the arcade for a long time. I remember the commercial for this game, with mutagen getting poured on the arcade game, and them promoting more villains, and two new levels. Pretty awesome if you ask me. And let’s not forget the blatant ads for Pizza Hut throughout the game. Finally we have Wayne Gretzky’s 3D Hockey, which I was given in exchange for Joey’s gas money. I absolutely love smashing guys on both teams, and setting the net on fire.
Action Figures - $4
Let’s see, we have three M.A.S.K. figures, Robocop, Krang, Faceman, Roboto, Tweeg, the Noid, and a bag of accessories including a proton pack. Doesn’t get any better than this. Or does it?
G.I. Joe Snow Cat with Frostbite, Law, Cobra Eel, Cobra Televiper - $16
I got these guys at the same table as the action figures, so I was pretty pumped. More Cobra troops are always appreciated, and the Snow Cat’s missile thing isn’t broken. I got a repaint of this for Christmas in 1988, and it lasted about 5 minutes. And considering how good I was with my toys, that says something.Comics - $20
It wouldn’t be a trip to the flea markets without getting comics. Some issues of Amazing Spidey, Champions, Excalibur, and a bunch of Marvel Team Up and Two In One.
G.I. Joe Stickers - $2
Ah puffy stickers, a staple of the 80s. We’ve got Snake Eyes and Breaker, as well as a VAMP jeep. I’m not sure how Snake Eyes grew larger than a Jeep, but I bet Cobra had something to do with it.
Hulk Hogan Mirror, California Raisins and Pac Man Records - $9.25
The Hogan mirror is just plain awesome. It totally screams 1980s. Now whenever I look in the mirror, I’ll see the Hulkster looking back, inspiring me to train, say my prayers and take my vitamins. And what goes better with a new record player, new records! I still don’t know how they came up with the idea of having raisins sing Motown, but that’s what you call marketing! The Pac Man record is a story about the ghosts stealing all the fruit in Pacville. Hemmingway, move over!
Tiny Toon Adventures: How I Spent My Vacation - $4
Probably too much to pay, but the fact that I had been talking about it on the drive up indicated to me that I should buy it. I absolutely LOVED this movie when it came out. In fact, there are still some quotes that I regularly used that came from that movie. HAMPTON! NOT ON THE COMICS!
Leather Jacket - $10
This is just good karma. I found a Voltron pillow case for O’Brien, and he finds me a leather jacket. I’ve actually been looking for one for a little while now, but refused to pay a lot of money to get one. This one fits perfectly and was cheap to boot. Ehhhhhhhhh!
Man, what a great month. If only I even close to having space to put all of these things. I find it incredible that after all of these trips, we still manage to find awesome stuff. Plus I find it interesting that I would talk about something on the drive up, and find it later that day. I gotta talk about that Ken Keeley print of Times Square in the 1980s. Or Felissa Rose herself. Hmmmmm...
