Pro Wrestling vs. Tecmo World Wrestling
NES Showdown: Winner Takes All
From the time WCW and the WWF first emerged as the two major leagues of professional wrestling, fans had debated who would win in a showdown between the two. Many knew that the whole business was in fact predetermined, but it was still fun to contemplate the awesome matches that would take place should the two companies ever compete under one banner. In fact, many wrestling magazines seemed to stay in business by publishing at least one article detailing interpromotional “dream matches” each month. Every fan hoped to see, once and for all, which one the two organizations was truly superior. -RD Reynolds and Bryan Alvarez, The Death of WCW
WWF and WCW would clash head to head for many years, with each side’s fan base arguing the merits of it’s company’s superstars over the ones from the other company. With the final Monday Nitro ending with the Vince/Shane simucast, it seemed that the rivalry was over. And for these players, technically it is. The WWF/WCW war may be over, but there is still one interpromotional showdown that fans want to see, and these players trace their roots to before the days of Raw or Nitro.
Of course I am talking about Nintendo’s Pro Wrestling vs. Tecmo World Wrestling for the title of Best Wrestling Game for the NES. For years now, gamers have debated amongst themselves over which game was truly superior. In an eerily similar fashion to the Monday Night Wars, each game was its own followers, who would promote their own game’s athletes over the ones found on the other game.
Therefore, I have brought superstars from each game together and for the first time ever, we will have Pro Wrestling/Tecmo Interpromotional Dream Matches. And you will have to chance to vote for your favorite wrestlers, in the encounter to end all encounter. When all is finished, there will only be one game left standing, and the debate will finally be put to rest. Who will be victorious? The choice is yours!
The event will take place as follows. There will be six Interpromotional Matches, pitting wrestlers from Pro Wrestling and Tecmo against one another. You will have the opportunity to vote for who you think would win in each match. You are welcome and encouraged to vote as much as you please. The wrestler with the most votes will win his exhibition match. As well, each vote for any wrestler counts as one vote for that wrestler’s respective game. Those votes will be tallied, and the game with the most votes will win that evening’s 12 Man Elimination Showdown Match, and being crowned Best NES Wrestling Game!
Therefore I give you the Lineup for NES Showdown: Winner Takes All!
Kin Corn Karn vs. “The Samurai” Akira Dragon
In a battle from the Far East, these martial arts experts will collide at Showdown. Who is the superior gladiator? You Decide!
The Amazon vs. Rex Beat
The rulebook will be tossed out the window in this battle between the savage Amazon, and leather-clad, Rex Beat. One things for sure, somebody’s going to get hurt!
King Slender vs. “Mr. Tattoo” Mark Rose
It’ll be the Backbreaker pitted against the Northern Lights Suplex. Will the skinny warrior of Pro Wrestling come out on top, or will it be the tattoo painted arm of Mark Rose being raised?
Star Man vs. El Tigre
Buckle your seatbeats! Its Luche libre at its finest as Star Man battles El Tigre. The mysterious, yet popular Star Man always excites crowds with his Somersault kick and Frog Splash. However, will he be able to perform those moves on an opponent the caliber of El Tigre? Should be a catch as catch can classic.
Fighter Hayabusa vs. Jackie Lee
Fighter Hayabusa’s Back Brain Kick was sent many talented wrestlers to the hospital, and led him to many victories in the past. However, against an opponent like Jackie Lee, who mixes strength and technique, will Hayabusa ever get the chance to land it? Jackie Lee is no slouch, and that Powerslam can put anybody down for the three count.
Giant Panther vs. Dr. Guildo
Dr. Guildo has already predicted his victory, and the two men almost came to blows at the Showdown Press Conference. There is a lot of pride involved in a contest of this stature, and these men are guaranteed to leave it all in the ring. The question is, will there be anything left of either man for the 12 Man Elimination Tag?
Mere words cannot express the gravity of this Showdown. Championships are not at stake, but for once it is something much more. Honor is a word that is thrown around a lot with little thought towards what it really means. Men putting their careers on the line, defending what they believe in, their way of life against challengers of equal passion. That is what Honor means! Only the strong will survive, and it is up to you who prevails in the end.
In the meantime, the Superstars of Pro Wrestling and Tecmo World Wrestling will train, say their prayers, and take their vitamins. Everything they have ever fought for is on the line. Only one game will be voted Best NES Wrestling Game, and they will fight to earn that honor!
