Eriol is an exchange student from England, and he first arrived two years ago before Sakura started converting the Clow Cards into Sakura Cards. Accompanied by Nakuru and Suppi, they seemed like normal people. However, Eriol is really a powerful magician and was the one who helped Sakura transform the cards, and attempted to get her and Li together. When he returns to Reidenton, he teams up with Meilin and Madison to get them together. At the same time, he also wants to spend as much time as he can with Madison, for he cares for her very deeply.
Eriol doesn't have a major role in Season 1, although he will make the occasional phone call to find out everything that's been happening, or the gang will gather into a private chat room they made on mIRC to discuss the events all at once. He is very intrigued by the Kayo Gems, and he asks as many questions as he can. He visits Japan in Episode 19 to be with Madison for Valentine's Day, but at the same time he helps to fight three of the Kayo Gems before heading back to England in Episode 20.
