Jan.2 Wind e.,snowing and cold. considerable drift ice. received a letter from E.W.Randall,"EWR" ok if "St Pierre" would lay up all winter. through the night wind changed to N.W..,snowing and drifting.

Jan.4 Wind N.W., clear and cold. last night very cold. ice jammed across the strait. report from Port Hood 2 vessels in ice. very cold at night. since this report 3 vessels off of cape are brigt."Pricilla May", topsail schr."Ada", and schr."Howard M". the two off of Port Hood are the "Progress" and "Adventure". the "Progress" is in Port Hood harbour.

Jan.5 Wind N.,very fine day.heard that "Howard M" was abandoned in the ice 13 miles off of Judique. teams hauled away flour from "New Dominion" today.

Jan.6 Wind W., very fine day. "New Dominion" and "City Point" stripped and teams hauling cargo away. E.W.R. arrived this night.

Jan.7 Wind S.E., fine and calm. noon commenced to blow hard and snow. schr."E.W.R." arrived last night,left St.Pierre last sunday,had heavy weather thursday. p.m. commenced to rain hard, at night wind came around N. with a squall. blew very heavy. before morning wind calmed down.

Jan.8 Wind S.W., very warm and fine. "E.W.R." stripped and hauled into the wharf. p.m. calm. night wind S.W., blowing hard. the ice went out today. brigt."Pricilla May",topsail schr."Ada" in ice, one man walked ashore from"Pricilla May".

Jan.9 Wind W.,very fine day. "E.W.R." laid up this day, crew gone home. auction today of 100 barrels of apples, 10 barrels of onions ,from schr."Theresa". some ice came in again today. at night heavy breeze from N.W., very frosty and cold.

Jan.13 Wind N.E., in a.m.,with snow. strait full of ice. the mails crossed today. midday very fine. seized schr."Theresa" and found 5 casks of kerosene at Thomas May's, 2 at L.H.Peeples(could be S.H.Peeples). paid for labour, securing kerosene,horse and man=.75cts, constable=$1.50, labor of Mich.Levangie=.35cts, telegrams to Guysborough, G.H.Smith, and Henry Hadley 62cts.

Jan.14 Wind S.W. to W. in a.m.,very fine day, scattering of ice in strait. p.m. changed to N.W. with a squall and snow blowing very hard. visited the schr."Theresa" found everything all correct.

Jan.15 Wind N.in a.m., clear and cold. some snow last night. midday cleared up. Mr.Tory here and filled up papers concerning seized schr."Theresa". agreed with George H.Smith to watch vessel and try pumps. $2.00 every 24 hours. to be relieved every day by some trusty person. this agreement good till we hear from the govt.
