The Litter Kit

This Diagram shows the original US litter kit designed to carry 4 stretchers. All M113a1's in Australian service come equiped with the mounting points for this kit, however the instillation of a T50 turret removes the forward two roof mounts.

The Australian modified litter kit retains many of the original parts however the number of stretchers is reduced to 3. The top stretcher is angled to avoid the turret cage and the bottom two are tied to the floor.

This picture shows the legged rail attached to the right hand wall. The chain shown is not an original part and was used until the genuine part could be found.

This picture shows the left hand strecher, the tool box has been placed between the stretchers to show the lack of room for the vehicle's Medic to work in. This kit is not commonly used as crews from most units recognise it's limitations with work space and equipment stowage.

This is one of the modifications trialed by the battalion to solve the stowage problems, a aluminium tray was bolted to the right hand wall and the battery box modified to allow access. The tray suffered from a lack of strength and the batteries where still hard to get too.
