The CrucibleI was awed on a class outing with the performance of Ken Kramer in "Angels in America." He played a larger than life role in the play, that left me wondering how he could project his voice so powerfully every night, that he could keep his voice. So I was also awed to find that he would be directing us in Arthur Miller's "The Crucible."After I auditioned for him, and I was definitely intimidated during my audition, I found out he gave me the part of the Judge Hathorne. The Judge was a larger than life character, and I was feeling like my voice was going to be inadequate for the job. But Ken directed me and took me aside a couple of times to help me with the workings of the character. We performed the play in a theatre where the audience was completely around the stage. The audience was sooooo close, we couldn't turn our back to the audience at any time (no picking our noses here). We could also exit from one of three areas throughout the audience. I thought that Ken did a good job of helping me out, considering when I made my shouting entrance I had one member of the audience say loud enough for me to hear, "What an a******." I knew then that I was doing a good job. I have to say that Ken Kramer also helped me with advice on television. Ken had been on "The X-Files," "Viper" and also "The Outer Limits," and so had a unique perspective that I didn't have. When I felt that I didn't have one idea as to how to go about auditioning for "North of 60," Ken told me to just give them a phone call and go after what I want. For that, I called and got an audition. Something interesting about "The Crucible." It turns out that my dad had also acted in a TV version of "The Crucible." And that he had the exact same part I did... of Judge Hathorne. Back
