November 12, 1999 ~ I can't believe it, the second trimester is finally here! I'm so thrilled to have made it, I was quite nervous that I never would! I am also relieved to have finally kicked the headache I have had for 5 days starting on Saturday, it's brutal not being able to take anything more than 1 regular strength tylenol! November 16, 1999 ~ I actually have energy again! I stopped taking the nausea medication this past weekend, and I am not sure if it was that that was making me sleepy, or just the first trimester in general. In any case, I'm not complaining! November 18, 1999 ~ Saw the OB/GYN today! I gained 1 pound this month, for a grand total of 6, at 15 weeks. My blood pressure was great, at 110/60, and Brayden got to hear the baby's heartbeat this time, it was 166 (very similar to Blake's!) I was feeling really good after the appointment. I've scheduled my blood testing, for the first week of December, and it looks like we're going to wait until after Christmas :( to have an ultrasound, but, we'll manage to wait! November 20, 1999 ~ Tonight, I laid in bed, and finally concentrated, and I did indeed feel the baby move! I thought I should be feeling it by now, but I guess I'm always moving about and didn't take the time to notice! November 22, 1999 ~ Had the kids portraits taken at Sears today. It's exhausting trying to get two kids to smile at once. I can't help but wonder how difficult it will be with 3 kids! December 4, 1999 ~ We had our family Christmas (dad's side) party today. There were over 40 people in attendance. Santa came, and the baby even got a present! I let the kids open it, and it was a little shape sorter toy, lucky baby - getting presents and he/she isn't even here yet! December 8, 1999 ~ Big day today! I had my triple screen bloodwork taken this morning. Today, we also had our lives saved by our Carbon Monoxide detector, which alerted us to a problem with our Gas fireplace. Thank goodness we had one! December 10, 1999 ~ I'm nervous about the triple screen test. I have an appointment with the doctor on Friday the 17th. Also nervous about my weight, I think I have gained too much this month. I seem to be hungry all the time this month! Oh well, I'm sure it's still much less weight gain than with Blake (45 pounds) and Brayden (35 pounds)! December 17, 1999 ~ Had a good dr. appt. today. My weight was up a bit (although it was oddly heavy that day, compared to the day before), so I'm up a total of 12 pounds at 19 wks. The whole family came to hear the baby's heartbeat. Brayden had been with me once before and heard it, but Geoff and Blake hadn't heard it, (although they were all there in the u/s, but it was at 7 wks). My blood pressure was good - 110/60. I was really hoping that my triplescreen blood tests would have been back by now, but they weren't. It's going to be a long weekend waiting to hear the results. I'm keeping my fingers crossed they'll be in on Monday! December 20, 1999 - Finally! My triple screen test came back ok. I actually was told I had a "reduced" chance for Downs and Spina Bifida, which is nice to hear. December 25, 1999 - Merry Christmas! The baby actually got a present today - no surprise really, a baby book from Auntie Mel. I think she's sympathizing with the "3rd child syndrome" and after not having a baby book, is making sure things will be different for her neice/nephew! We all had a good laugh over it anyway! December 27, 1999 - I seem to have caught the stomach flu. It started yesterday, and basically, from dinner time on, put me out of commission. I was in bed all day today, sleeping, and that's very unlike me! Hoping it is gone soon! December 31, 1999 - Well, it's been an interesting few days, long story, but first Geoff got the stomach flu, and then Blake did, so we left Geoff's moms to come home and Geoff is going to stay with her tonight, while I go out with my family to the "reunion" New Years Party. Below is a photo of me before I left for the party. I am exactly 21 weeks in this photo. January 6, 2000 - Well, Brayden caught the nasty flu bug that's going around, and after being awake for two nights with him, I caught it as well. It's going to be an interesting few days! January 10, 2000 - Dr. Ng prescribed amoxicilin for me because I still have the terrible flu, and my cough is causing pain in my chest, throat and ears. Just to be safe, he's ordered the prescription. I hope it works, the flu is still in full swing at this point, and I have hardly eaten or slept in a few days! January 14, 2000 - Still suffering a few flu symptoms, a nagging cough, still quite tired, but generally on the mend I guess. I had my doctor's appointment today, my 23 week appt. My weight was down 2 pounds from last month, so my total gain is 10 pounds. My blood pressure is good, as usual. My fundal height is measuring small, only 19 cm for 23 wks. The dr. isn't even concerned, I just happened to notice it on my chart. I am nervous now, as with the other two kids, I measured either accurately, or ahead of schedule. I asked to have an ultrasound soon, and was able to book one for Thursday, January 20, in Ottawa. We're going to try to find out the sex of the baby at that time! January 20, 2000 ~ Well, I was nervous all day about the ultrasound. At 6:30 pm we went in to the room, and started the ultrasound. We'd driven an hour to get to the clinic, so we were anxious by then. She first measured the baby's heartrate at 143, then began measuring the baby's organs, etc. I couldn't see anything, but Geoff saw the entire thing. He saw close ups of the baby's hand, his feet, everything. Finally, she asked if we'd like to know the sex. It took her a while to find out, because the legs were crossed, but finally she told us, it was a BOY! I was in a little bit of shock, having been right on my guess with the other two, and I was wrong this time. I did think it was a girl. I wasn't sure what Blake was going to think, having ordered a sister. I'm glad we know ahead of time, to be able to help her get used to the idea of another brother! The ultrasound took about a half hour, and we got to see so much of the baby that we'd never gotten to see at an ultrasound before. We even got a beautiful picture of the profile of his face (it's on the main page). We called all of our family members to tell them the news last night. Most of them I think thought we were having a girl, so, a lot of people were surprised! I guess it's time to dig out the baby clothes and start washing boy clothes! Brayden will have to share his room with his brother, which is probably the best solution anyway, since Blake's so used to having her own at this point, and he's still too young to be possessive of things like that! I'm looking forward to getting the ultrasound report to make sure all is well, but the technician said he was healthy, so that's good! January 22, 2000 ~ Well, I've read the baby name book boys section completely now, and we're still not close to choosing a name. I think it's going to be a hard decision, there aren't any that really jump out at me at this point, although, I did manage to add to my very short list that I had before, so I've got a bit more to work with now. Lets hope there's one on my list that Geoff likes, or it's back to the books! January 27, 2000 ~ I am so relieved today! I got the results of my ultrasound, and everything is great! Not only did the baby measure accurately for dates (in fact they measured him to be one day ahead of schedule), he weighed a little larger than average (783g/ 1 pound 12 ounces) at 23wks,5days. His heart rate was 143, and everything was normal, amniotic fluid level, kidneys, heart, stomach, etc. They also made note that the placenta was anterior grade one (good) and my ovaries, and kidneys were good as well. I am so excited to know that my dates are correct, and we most certainly will be having a May baby after all! :0) January 28, 2000 ~ Today I started knitting a baby blanket for the baby. This is something I did for each child when I was pregnant with them. Blake's blanket is white, Brayden's is green, and this baby's will be blue! I am having a hard time concentrating on the pattern though with the kids around. I've decided I should only work on it when the kids are asleep! February 8, 2000 ~ Took a belly shot today, and I thought I'd post it, since my belly has surely grown since the last one! I'm 26 wks 3 days in the photo. The kids are both in it, but Brayden was playing peek a boo behind my belly. P.S. Excuse the colour and quality, it's a polaroid! Oh, and Blake is 3 1/2, Brayden 1 1/2. Here it is: Look for an update on Friday, my next dr. appt! :0) February 11, 2000 ~ Had my 27 wk appt. today. My regular OB is on holidays, but all was well. My weight took a jump, I'm up 18 pounds total, but obviously baby did part of the growing. My belly grew 11 cm in 4 wks to measure at 30cm (3cm larger than dates)! That's unbelieveable to me! The baby's heartbeat was 152, and my blood pressure was good at 110/70. I have an order to have my glucose tolerance test next week, hoping it's negative, but not looking forward to the needle (I have small veins, and they always have a hard time finding one to use!) I'm due to go back in 3wks to the dr.
