Chapter Six

"Calm down" Nick chanted to himself.

"Calm down?! Calm down?!" Morgan cried out. "Do you realise the shit that we're in?"

"Uh-huh" Nick nodded before returning to his chanting. "This really isn't happening..this really isn't happening."

Morgan slapped him upside the head. "Stop it. Just stop it. You are driving me crazy."

"Well you're driving me even more crazy!" Nick countered. "Just stop yelling and calm down."

"Calm down?! Nick we're freakin married" Morgan yelled, as she started pacing up and down the room.

"Maybe we just put them on the marriage finger by coincidence?" Nick suggested hopefully.

"Oh you're even more stupid than I thought" Morgan said in annoyance. She collapsed onto the bed where Nick was curled up in a ball. "And you're my husband!"

Nick began breathing rapidly and his face began to turn red. "I have a wife. I'm barely in my twenties and I have a wife."

"Well I just turned 21 and I am bloody married" Morgan said in disbelief.

"I'm gonna get kicked out of the group. My career is over" Nick wailed, throwing his arms up in the air.

"Oh I don't think so" Morgan retorted. "My career is so much more over than yours. I was supposed to be at a mall appearance four hours ago" Morgan exclaimed. "Instead where am I? In a hotel room with the biggest dimwit on earth for a husband."

"Well you're not exactly my ideal wife either" Nick countered.

They both sat pouting and sulking on the bed before Morgan's ringing cell phone broke the silence. She dove over Nick to get it, just as Nick lifted his knee up to stretch, Morgan grabbed her stomach. "Ooooof."

"Ooops sorry. My fault. Sorry" Nick apologised just as Morgan glared at him. She rubbed her stomach in pain briefly, before kicking Nick in the side and answering her phone. Nick winced and sulked at her. "Hello?"

"If you weren't a girl I'd beat you up right now" Nick shot back at Morgan who pulled a face at him and returned to her call.

"Hi..yeah I know.. I am so sorry. Yeah..I uh was feeling sick this morning and I didn't have the strength to make the call. Yeah..yeah..sorry. But I knew the girls could handle it. They did? Are you serious?"

Nick was mimicking Morgan, just as Morgan caught sight of it out of the corner of her eye. She gave him the finger, just as Nick immaturely drew an exaggerated breath.

"I'm telling" Nick said.

Morgan continued to listen to the long lecture she was getting from her boss, but at the same time was mouthing obscenities at Nick who was being annoying. "I don't give a flying f..." she began before having to answer her boss. "Uh yes Mr Landers uh-huh I promise never to do that again. Uh-huh thankyou...I'll see you soon..yeah I'll meet up with the girls right away...okay then...yeah bye."

"You know some pretty bad swear words" Nick mused with amazement. "I didn't even think half of those existed.

"Oh they do and I know some that are even worse" Morgan smirked. "Annoy me anymore and you'll be hearing them.

Nick gasped. "But these are virgin ears, I haven't heard such bad words before" Nick said jokingly.

"Uh huh, yeah I highly doubt you've got virgin anything" Morgan remarked before getting off the bed to search for her bag.

"You never know" Nick shot back. "I'm still quite innocent in some respects."

"If you're innocent, I'm Oscar the grouch" Morgan said with a roll of her eyes.

"Possibly you look like him" Nick said, trying to keep a straight face before bursting into laughter.

Morgan gave him a long disdainful look. "We're you the village idiot in a past life?"

**************

"So we'll meet up for dinner later then. We have to try and figure out what happened" Morgan said to Nick as she was heading out the door to join the girls at the TV station where they were making an appearance.

"You're leaving just like that" Nick remarked after finally diverting his attention away from the TV.

"Do you have a problem with that?" Morgan said in annoyance.

"Yeah" Nick nodded.

"What? If it's about the hotel bill you deal with it. You're the one with a seven figure bank account" Morgan said in exasperation.

"It's not that" Nick replied, before mouthing "cheapo" under his breath.

"What then?"

"Where's my kiss goodbye? I am your husband you know" Nick said with a laugh.

Morgan grabbed her bag before giving Nick a dirty look. "Drop dead Carter."

"I love you too Morgan!" Nick called out, further annoying her as she slammed the door behind her.

**************

"You're late" Morgan snapped, as soon as Nick spotted her table and he took a seat opposite her.

"Hi Nick, how are you" Nick said sarcastically before dropping his jacket on a spare chair.

"Yeah whatever, so have you thought about this whole thing?" Morgan responded impatiently.

"Can I at least order something before you jump down my throat?" Nick said, as he signalled for the waiter. Morgan rolled her eyes at him and tapped her fingers impatiently while Nick rattled off an order to the waiter.

"Was that for just one sitting or were you stocking up for the next month and a half?" Morgan commented, amazed at how much Nick could eat.

"Funny" Nick said with a sarcastic smile.

Morgan shrugged at him. Food must be a sensitive subject for him, she thought. "So have you?"

"Yes I have and I think the first thing we need to remember is where we actually got hitched" Nick stated logically.

"Beat you to it" Morgan piped up. She reached down for her bag and pulled out a piece of paper. She handed it to Nick, who looked at it wide-eyed.

"We got married at a place called Uncle Bob's sentimental civil ceremonies?" Nick said.

"Charming isn't it? I'd laugh if only it wasn't happening to me" Morgan commented. "We must've been out of it completely."

"I'm guessing we were. Getting married is not something I'd forget quickly" Nick mused. He stared down at the piece of paper. It was a marriage licence, he figured Morgan must've stashed it in her bag afterwards. He noticed his signature and almost laughed. It was crooked and barely recognisable, he must've been so drunk. He was actually surprised he had managed to sign his own name.

"So I say we get over there and find out what happened on the night. Hopefully we might be able to clear this mess up before I have to go home" Morgan declared. She grabbed the licence from Nick and stuiffed it back into her bag. Nick nodded in agreement.

"And what if we can't?" Nick wondered aloud.

"Do not say that" Morgan said simply. "Cause if I have to stay married to you past this trip, my head will explode."
