Although Cosmo Canyon does not have many chocobos around, it is one of the greatest supplies of knowledge around the world, and it is no exception with chocobos.

Normal chocobos: Normal chocobos are extremely shy creatures, and will almost never appear to humans unless they are drawn by a "chocobo lure," a special type of materia. They usually travel with packs of monsters, and to catch them, you will need to feed the chocobos "greens," or vegetables. If you don't, when you try and dispatch the monsters, you will probably scare the chocobo off.
To breed chocobos, you must have captured a male and a female (obviously). Then you must feed them a nut. They can then produce a young chicobo.
Note: Chocobos know a special type of enemy skill known as "Chocobuckle." The only known way to get this is to find a chocobo near Mideel and to give it Mimmet greens. Then cast Level 4 Suicide, another enemy skill, on it. It should cast Chocobuckle on the character that cast Suicide.

Special chocobos: Special chocobos are extinct now, and can only be bred. The secret of breeding these special chocobos was lost over the ages, but the Chocobo Sage, who lives in the northen mountains, was kind enough to give us some of his manuscripts.

River (Blue) and Mountain (Green) Chocobos: First of all, you need two chocobos of opposite sexes from the Mideel area. Then you need to get a "Carob" nut from the Vlakorados -- wild red beasts on an island near the icicle area. Then you need to breed them together with the nut. You should get a green or blue chicobo if you try several times. Try to get one green and one blue, of different sexes. Blue chocobos have the ability to swim in shallow water or rivers. Green chocobos have the ability to walk over almost any mountains.

River-and-Mountain (Black) Chocobo: Once the blue and green chicobos have grown into big chocobos, breed them together with a carob nut and you may get a Black Chocobo. (You may have to race them at the Gold Saucer). This chocobo can go over both rivers and mountains.

Ocean-River-and-Mountain (Gold) Chocobo: The Gold Chocobo is the rarest chocobo that has been proven to exist. You can get a Gold Chocobo by capturing an extremely strong, or "Wonderful", chocobo from the Icicle Inn area. Then you must get a Zeio nut from the goblins of the North-East island. It is only accessible through airship. Now you need to breed the Black Chocobo with the Wonderful Chocobo. If the chocobos are very well trained, you may get a Gold Chocobo! The Gold chocobo can travel over whole oceans as well as mountains and rivers.

Silver Chocobo: This is only a rumor, but a very popular one! Many people think that if you breed two Gold chocobos with extremely good training together with a zeio or carob nut that you might get a Silver Chocobo. This chocobo can supposedly travel under water like the submarine, with no ill-effect to the rider. Supposedly it can even go down beneath Midgar Swamp, where Shinra supposedly put Onyx WEAPON, the WEAPON destroyed by the Sister Ray at Junon Harbor.
