Monday - 7:30 A.M. --------- "Shit. Where is that dammed thing ?!?" Dana Scully couldn't find her cell phone. She had looked everywhere. And if she didn't find it soon, she would be late for work. That would be bad. She had even gone to calling it with her home phone. On the first try, she didn't her the hi-pitched ringing in here apartment anywhere. Going through her bedroom searching for it there again, she decided to try call the phone one more time. She had expected nothing at all like the first time, but was greeted by a man's voice. "Scully's phone." said the voice. Confused and startled for a few moments, she finally spoke. "What the...? Wait. Who is this?" "Who else?" replied the voice, with a tone of humor and mischief in it. It took her a moment to realize just who she was talking to. Sighing, she said, "Mulder, what the hell are you doing with my cell phone?" "Why, I was wondering the exact same thing. Fancy that." She knew he was playing with her, but she was not in the mood for this. In fact, she was already frustrated with looking for her phone for the last half-hour while she could have been out of there and halfway to work already. "Mulder." "Yes?' "Quit playing games with me. Now tell me exactly how you ended up with my cell phone." "I'm still working on that." His voice still had that mischievous glint to it. "Mulder!" "Well, seeing that I have only one phone, you must have mine." "And there's only way to find out." "And how’s that?" "Seeing that I'm sort on time this morning because of a certain event, I'll have to show you instead." "How will you do tha-" She hung up with out even letting him finish. He was really starting to get on her nerves and she hadn't even gone to work yet. Dialing his cell phone number into her phone, she smiled at the result. There was a ringing in the bedroom. In fact, it was coming from right behind her. Turning around, she followed that sound until she came to the dresser. Damm, she thought. It's behind the dresser. Turning off the phone, which also in turn ended the shrilling ring of Mulder's cell phone, she turned on the lamp on the dresser so there would be more light behind the dresser. Getting down on her knees, she reached behind the dresser. Great, she thought. I also can't reach it. ========================================================================== X-Files Basement Office J.D. Hoover Building Monday - 8:30 A.M. -------- He had actually beat her to work today. Wow, that was a first. Usually she's ahead of him by a hour. At the least, a half-hour. Well, if you thought about it, this time doesn't count. Much of it was due to the little joke he had played on her. Even though he was much amused by it, she was obviously not, judging by the tone in her voice this morning. Okay, okay. It was a mean joke Fox. You really shouldn't have done it. Hell with that! You were bored to death yesterday and Saturday, too. It's bad enough you have to work weekdays, but weekends? This was not fair. Well, Mulder life isn't fair. That's just how it is. Sighing, he picked up the folder on a new case they were going to working on. It was on several mysterious murders in...well, would you look at that. Hawaii. God, we better go out of town for this one. A free trip to Hawaii. That would be...that would be....that would be unlikely. Glancing at his watch, and then back at the door. Where was she? It's 8:47. She's been late before, but not this late. It wouldn't be...like her. Not perfect. She was perfect. At least, she was to him. Smart, beautiful, strong, and...and...he could add on to the list forever. He had always felt that their relationship was mostly just like best friends, but at the same time it felt like it was much more than that. But that part usually didn't show up much in their lives. He wished it did. His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of footsteps coming down the hall. Uh-oh. Sounds like high heels. Quickly, he turned his chair around to face his computer and acted like he was doing something. But before he could even put his hand on the mouse, his chair was spun around and he was face to face with a very pissed off Scully. ========================================================================== "Hey Sc...Scully. Wazzup? Want some coff...coffee?" stuttered Mulder. She was glaring at him with one of those 'Mulder your such a jackass' looks. "Look Mulder. I'm *really* tried of your jokes right now, and...and, Mulder sit still!" "Well, I would if you didn't have such an iron grip on my wrists that cut of my circulation there." Glancing down to his hands see saw that she had his wrists pinned down onto the arm rests of the chair. "Sorry...I was just...". She trailed off into a quiet murmur. She released her grip on him and took a few steps back. "Just...mad?" mulder said, being very careful of what he said so he wouldn't anger his partner any further than she was right now. "Well Mulder, of curse I'm mad! And you know very well why I'm mad." She wasn't really mad at him, just frustrated. "I guess you'll want this back now." He held her cell phone in his hand. Glaring at him, she snatched it from him. "Just answer one thing for me Mulder. Why did you do that? Why?" "Do what?" He grinned slightly. Oh boy, here comes the *fun* part. Yay! Sighing, she glared at him. "Mulder...." "I couldn't help my self Scully! I was totally bored yesterday, and I saw your phone on your desk, and thought it would be fun to switch our phones," He grinned broadened a little. "I didn't plan on you misplacing your...I mean *my* phone at your place! I was really looking forward to seeing how long it took you to figure out that the phone you had wasn't yours. Alas, I'll never find out. I'm sorry Scully if I made you mad. But making people mad at me seems to be a talent of mine, I'm afraid. " She smiled. "Yes, it does seem to be a talent of yours." "So, am I off the hook yet?" "No, not really." He arched an eyebrow. "Oh! So the evil Doctor Scully is plotting her revenge upon me?" "Yeah, something like that." she grinned. "I guess I'll have to watch my back. Here's something that might cheer you up!" Grinning like a fool, he handed her the case file he was looking at earlier. "Oh, sure. A new case will cheer me up? Unlikely." She took the folder and sat down at her desk. Opening it, she scanned the documents and photos. "And how is this file different from any other odd murder case we've done?" "Look at the location." "Uh...what's so special about some small town in Wisconsin?" He nearly fell out of his chair. "What!?!? I swore it said Hawaii!" She nearly fell out of her chair too, but not for the same reasons. She laughed. "Hawaii! Mulder, you must have been half asleep when you read this!" She really tried hard not to double over in laughter. The look on his face was hilarious. He was turning red and had the face of a young boy who couldn't have his way. "Sorry Mulder, but no Hawaii here." she tossed the folder on his desk. Still pouting, he said "Damm. I knew it was to good to be true. Oh, by the way Scully, can I have my phone back now?" Hiding a grin, she replied, "I was going to tell you earlier, but....," She smiled slightly. "It's still back at my apartment." "What?!? But Scully, I need my phone...", he whined. "Let me finish Mulder. Like I was saying, it's still back at my place *because* it fell behind my dresser and, well, I couldn't reach it so, I left it there." She smiled at him. This is *so" much fun. He just sat there in his chair looking at her wide eyed. "But Scully..." "Oh Mulder. You'll live. We'll swing by my place after lunch and get it, okay?" "I guess so." God, I wish I had a camera right now, she thought, still smiling. ==========================================================================
