Heart-throb Clooney will start on the Scots project on January 19 and will be working with another Brad Hollywood bad boy Brad Renfro in The Jacket. The troubled former child star has just finished probation for trying to steal a yacht in a drug-fuelled caper.
Hellraiser Renfro shot to fame as a scene-stealing 12-year-old in the John Grisham movie The Client.Jacket will also star Adrien Brody, who won an Oscar for his role in The Pianist, and Pirates Of The Caribbean's Keira Knightley. The £20 million blockbuster Jacket is being shot in Bathgate and Broxburn. Disused Bangour mental hospital, near Livingston, will double as a Vermont insane asylum.
Clooney is delighted that Renfro is to join the team in Scotland. He said: ''Bradis a very talented actor and we're happy to have him on board.''
But film bosses will be hoping the 21-year-old star behaves himself. In 1998, police charged him for possessing cocaine and marijuana. He was freed after agreeing to stay off drugs.
Two years later, he was charged with trying to steal a 45 ft yacht in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.Renfro, who has appeared in 12 films including Sleepers with Brad Pitt, did not untie the boat's ropes.
As it pulled away, the line yanked the £150,000 vessel back into the dock, damaging its stern. He got two years probation and paid damages. In 2001, he was put in the cells again, this time for underage drinking. He now attends Alcoholics Anonymous.
