Mengwi
Tabanan
Tanah Lot

                             TABANAN
approx. 30 km from airport
This town is a commercial and administration centre. Not a good place to stay as it lacks tourist facilities. The attractions to the area lie outside Tabanan. Approximately 20 km from Tabanan the road climbs up high into the hills to Jatiluwih village, 850 meters above sea level. The view here is one of the finest in the world. The terraced rice fields stretch in endless contour over hills and valleys as far as the eye can see.
  • Marga villageAbout 15 km n/e of Tabanan, lies the shrine dedicated to I Gusti Ngurah Rai, whoin 1946, lead the Tabanan forces against the Dutch. The international airport and several roadways are named after him.
  • Krambitan Village approx 12 km west of Tabanan. Known for it's Tektekan perfomance..something like an exorcism. Two palaces here offer rooms for rent.
  • Yeh Panas These hot springs were used by the Japanese during whilst they were stationed in Bali during WWII.
  • Tanah Lot. One of the most visited sites in Bali. The temple is built upon a large rock which lies close to shore. Depending on the weather, the views on a sunny day are magnificent. On overcast days the place can be disappointing. Poisonous black snakes live amongst the rocks. Sashes must be worn and a small fee is charged for admission and parking.

  • Mengwi
Mengwi was once the capital of the region back in the 17th century. All that remains is the Pura Taman Ayun temple. To say the least there is not much here to see. The main attraction to this area is the Sangeh monkey forest. The monkeys here are as bold as brass. They have literally taken over the place. Some reports say that it is not even worth the visit as it may put you off monkeys forever.
