E-mail Introductions

Throughout the project, the Grade 5 students at Thorhild Central School were partnered up with a keypal from another school.  They corresponded over e-mail, and there were well over 100 e-mails written and sent over the 5-week project.  Following are a few samples of the keypal interactions:

Hi, I am in grade five. I like to play soccer and in 1997 I won the Tri county cup. I wonder if there will be Pokemon in the year 2000. I like Pokemon do you? What is your favorite show, book, and other things?   How many friends do you have? I have five friends.  I think there are going to be cars that don't need fuel.

Hi! My hobbies are playing soccer, playing the piano, reading, and riding my bike. My favorite subjects in school are gym, music, social, and computers. I like to watch Pokemon, Seventh Heaven, UhOh, Mad Libs, and Hollywood Squares. Are you a boy or a girl? I'm wondering because your e-mail name might be fake. I am a girl.When is your birthday? Did you know a school district in Alberta (a bunch of schools)are changing their computers dates back to 1972 so they don't lose all their computers? Did you know that Trans Alta has bought $15000 worth of food? So if the power goes out the workers can stay and fix stuff. I wonder if aliens will come to earth, don't you? I wonder what will happen to people who have animals since they need power to be fed and power to keep warm. I wonder if everyone has supplies if there is a power outage.

Hi.  What is your name? I like to go horse back riding or skate in the winter. On cold days I like to bake. I also like watching T.V. What are your interests? What are your favorite sports? Do you have glasses? Do you collect Pokemon cards? If you do how many do you have? If you don't do you want Pokemon cards? How old are you? Do have any siblings? Do you know any thing about Y2K? I know that Y2K means year 2000. I know that I will be 11. There will be flying cars. What do you wonder about Y2k? I wonder if the law will change to no smoking? I wonder if the we will be able to go to the moon. I wonder if people will go to Mars or something? Write back soon. Bye

Hi.  My interests are mostly sports like hockey and soccer. My other interests are Pokemon games and cards. Gym is my other interest at school. What sports do you like? Do you like Pokemon? Do you live on a farm? Whats your favorite class in school? I know for sure that there is going to be more space travel in the Y2K. There is going to be satellite phones. People will make more solar cars. I wonder if there will be teleports in the Y2K. Probably robots will do all human work. I wonder if the world will come to an end.
