Plant Help Page
I will be adding information on picking and keeping live plants.
Live Plants make the Tank look nice as well as putting oxygen into the tank. I do not recommend the beginner to try live plants. If they die they will poison the water. You must Trim the plants or they will grow wild.
I am working on this page right now. Later I will add the types of plants.
- Don't get an Undergravel Filter If you want to keep live plants. They tear up the roots.
- Don't put in live plants till the water Temperature is correct.
- Find out how large and fast the plants will grow.
- Make sure the plant has good roots and free of dead leaves.
- You can buy Live Plant seeds but don't always do good.
- Not all plants are planted in the gravel, like the Duckweed. The Duck Weed is a floating type of plant. These types of plants give shy fish a feel of security, as well as safe hidding for fish Fry. And cut out the amount of light that enters the tank.
- A certain amount of lighting is needed for the plants ot grow. About 10 hours of light a day.
- Plant the taller plants in the back of the tank, and smaller ones in the front.
- Leave space between your plants they will grow.
- Don't push the plant to far down in the gravel.
- Try placing the tall plants so they hide the heater and filter.
- Some plants require Iron supplment to grow properly.
Plants provide food for the plant eating fish in your tank. They help in the removal of carbon dioxide, and they look nice. Also they provide shade for the fish.
Most Tropical plants grow in water that is between 75 and 81 degrees F.
About once a week remove dead leaves by hand or special tongs.
More to come later.
