This is the page for the Ottawa Public Library. Here, you can find out where your nearest library is, when the hours are, and what programs are going on. I also have a link to the catalogue, information on materials, services and volunteering, as well as links to contact people at the Library for information.

GENERAL INFO

NEW POLICIES ARE IN EFFECT - COMING SOON TO THIS SITE

Joining the Library - Everyone living in Ottawa is entitled to a free library card. There is a $35 annual fee for people living
outside the city ($70 for a family). Children in Grade 8 and under must have a parent's or guardian's
                                        signature to hold a card.
Using the Library - You can use your card at all 33 branches of the library, and you must have it in order to borrow library
materials. If you lose your card, report it right away because anything taken out on your card is your
responsibilty until the card is reported missing. If you lose your card, the replacement fee is $1 for children
and  $ 5 for an adult card. You may return any item to any branch, regardless of where you took it out.
Borrowing -  Most materials may be borrowed for 3 weeks, with the exception of certain audio-visual
materials. Late fees apply to materials returned past the due date. The fees are 5 cents a day for children's materials,
10 cents a day for adult material and $2 a day for audio-visual materials. These fees will continue for a maximum of 50
days, at which time your account will be sent to a collection agency. For missing materials, you will be required to pay
any late fees, the cost to replace the item as well as a processing fee. You can also be charged for any damaged
material. If you need materials for a long time, ask the person at the circulation desk about the extened loan periods.
Renewals - You may renew an item a maximum of 3 times unless there is someone else waiting for it. You may renew in person at
the library, at the website via the catalogue or by telephone at
                       (613 236-8001
Drop-Off Boxes - See the list of branches for drop-off box info. Most libraries leave the drop-off box locked during opening hours
because there is no sufficient staff to empty them.
If you have any further questions about these or any other policies, call your library or Infoservice at 236-0303.
