The Beatles was formed around 1959-60 in Liverpool. UK. Founder members were John Lennon and Paul McCartney who at a very early stage began writing songs. During 1960-62 they played several times in Hamburg and they were top stars in Liverpool´s Cavern Club. In August original drummer Pete Best was replaced by Ringo Star, and soon after their first hit singles "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me" hit the charts.
The Beatles turned out to be one of the biggest successes in modern music history, with their orininal and innovating songwriting, their great vocals and charm. Guitarist George Harrison also began writing songs, and soon turned out to be a great songwriter as well and the Lennon/McCartney song-writing team.
In 1994-95 The Beatles were briefly together again to record/overdub John Lennon demos for the Beatles Anthology release.
After the Beatles split up in 1970 all four members continued their musical carreers as solo artists, and both John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison continued to create great music.
Band Members:
John Lennon: Born 1940, vocals, guitar and keyboards. John was the rebel of the group and probably the one who gave the group the "edge" that was necessary to match the more "sweet" approach of Paul McCartney. Several of his solo albums such as "Plastic Ono Band", "Imagine" and "Double Fantasy" and classic rock albums
Paul McCartney: Born 1942, bass and vocals. Paul was the melodic genious of the band and a great all-round musician. His greatest album after the Beatles is usually considered to be "Wings: Band on the Run"
George Harrison: Born 1943, guitar and vocals . George was a fine guitarist, and a very skilled banjo player and slideguitarist. He produced briefly for Badfinger, and it is George and Pete Ham played the duet slides in Badfinger´s bug hit "Day After Day". Of George´s solo albums "All Things Must Pass" and "Brainwashed" are highly recommendable
Ringo Starr: Born 1940, drums and occasional vocals. Ringo was the joker in the group, and usually concentrated on doing the job behind the drums. Ringo wrote were little, but has released numerous solo albums, and is still have great success with his Ringo´s All Star Bands.
Pete Best: Born 1941, Drums. Pete was replaced by Ringo in 1962
Stuart Sutchcliffe: Born 1940, bass . Sutchcliffe was actually a painter and never felt confident as a musician. He sadly died at the age of 22 in 1962
George Martin: Born 1926, producer and keyboards. Martin is often referred to as the 5th Beatle, as he was very much a part of the creative magic that came when they were in the studio together. Martin produced all the Beatles albums except "Let it Be", which was finished by Phil Spector.
