Jefferson Airplane
After Bathing at Baxter's - RCA 1967 Comments:Compared to their previous album "Surrealistic Pillow" this is an album not so easy to get into. Only few songs have the qualities of standing alone; the songs are tied together in themes and the album is meant to be listened to as a whole.
A few tracks, though, have the commercial qualities of the S.P. songs. Paul Kantner's "Martha", which is also included in the single version, is my personal favorite and its a song that would be an obvious choice to represent the album on a best of J.A. compilation.
A lot of experiments and strange sounds are going on throughout the album, which can make it hard to listen to as background music. But if you are prepared to listen more concentrated, you won't be bored. The band sounds inspired and the playing is great; ( as always ).
Among the bonus-tracks the single-version of "Martha" and Marty Balin's "Things are Better in the East" are great additions
