Amy Winehouse
Back to Black - Island Records 2006 Comments:I first became interested in Amy Winehouse in connection with a course, "Club 27", which by nature took place after Winehouse's tragic early death at the age of 27. Her slightly dark and very expressive vocal made a big impression on me.
Her second album, "Back to Black", is clearly strongly inspired by the Tamla Motown sound of the 1960s - not least characterized by a group like The Supremes. However, there are also some significant differences; Winehouse's vocals often have a more jazzy tone, and in many cases her lyrics are very personal, in a way uncommon during the era of The Supremes.
"Back to Black" is generally a very personal album, where strong songs like "Rehab", "You Know I'm No Good", "Back to Black", "Love is a Losing Game" and "Wake Up Alone " are bound to stick with you.
Very sad that this great talent would go so early, leaving behind only two finished albums.
