"Bird Noises" from 1980 was Midnight Oil's first EP. It shows the group from a more subdued side, using acoustic instruments along with their original hard-rock.

“No Time for Games' is a nice classic rocker; quite catchy. The short "Knife's Edge" is faster but also less interesting. 'Wedding Cake Island' is a surprising instrumental performed in the best Shadows style – a great fun number. Finally, "I'm the Cure" which is another fine rock song. The EP clearly shows that Midnight Oil was now heading towards a more melodic approach with room for crisp harmonies.
