Comments:

The Clash's debut album is usually rated as one of the greatest punk albums of all time. The album was released early in 1977 when the punk-wave really struck. The numbers are generally short and hard-hitting with different political and social statements with an apparent wish to provoke.

Although the album was recorded over a few weeks, the group appear musically closely knit and their distinctive sound is present. Apart from "Police and Thieves", the most advanced track on the album, the songs are written by the groupmembers themselves; primarily Joe Strummer and Mick Jones.

"Police and Thieves" written by Jamaicans Junior Murvin and Lee Perry lead the mind on later albums such as "London Calling" and "Sandinista" where the inspiration from reggae is very predominant. Apart from this number, it's hard to highlight any from the others - musically, they're actually pretty similar; not meant negatively.
