Comments:

When Australian / New Zealand band Split Enz disbanded in 1984, two of the group members, Neil Finn and Paul Hester, decided to form a new band; together with bassist Nicholas Seymour the two founded Crowded House. The success came almost immediately with this fine 1986 debut album. Thanks to Neil Finn's fine songs and the great production of Mitchell Froom, the success was both logical and deserved.

Finn's melodic pop-rock songs resonated with many people around the world and "Don't Dream It's Over" in particular must now be considered a minor classic, recorded by several other artists; among others Sixpence None the Richer. Of other fine tracks, I would like to highlight "World Where You Live", which was actually the first single and the one to break the ice for the group. "Don't Dream It's Over" was actually only the fourth from the album. Also "Mean to Me", "Something so Strong" and "Tombstone" could be brought forward on an album without any weak tracks.
