Comments:

Modest Mouse is a fairly new name to me, having first become acquainted with the band in connection with a purchase at a second-hand store.

I discovered after a few listens that the group at its best is actually really good, with fine melodic rock songs and a distinctive lead singer in Isaac Brook. However, this, the group's fourth, is perhaps a bit too uneven for me to be a really strong album.

It does open strongly with the trio "The World at Large", "Float On" and "Ocean Breathes Salty", all of which are melodic and catchy. All three were natural choices as singles, and "Float On" in particular was a big hit for the group.

From here it gets a bit uneven, as mentioned, but I would like to highlight "Blame it on the Tetons", "Black Cadillac" and "One Chance" as really fine rock songs. Also, of course, the acoustic final number, "The Good Times are Killing Me" is fine. So the albums finishes really well, after o good handful of songs that did not really appeal to me.
