Radiohead
Hail to the Thief - Parlophone 2003 Comments:I skipped "Amnesiac" after the great disappointment I experienced with "Kid A", which I bought without having listened to any of it in 2000. The first three albums had been some of my big favorites in the 1990s, but with "Kid A” my fascination ended.
However, in 2003 I curiously read reviews of the new album, "Hail to the Thief" and I was particularly struck by the fact that several reviewers felt that there was a return towards "OK Computer". This was enough for me to give Radiohead another chance.
Unfortunately, I had to acknowledge that it was a new disappointment; though not as big the one "Kid A" gave. Two numbers are actually really good. "Go to Sleep" is an almost folkish song; melodic with acoustic guitar accompaniment. "There There" has a good beat and a really nice guitar riff - my favorite on the album. Also the quiet "I Will" and the ending number "A Wolf at the Door" are good.
As for the rest of the album I’m not impressed. So all in all, a disappointment.
