The Eagles
Hotel California - Asylum 1976 Comments:The Eagles' album "Hotel California" was such a huge success in the late 1970s that many people managed to get too much of it. This also applied to me, and in fact there were many years when I couldn't bear to hear it again. br>A recent re-listen to the album was an exciting experience and it became obvious to me that an album with such strong tracks as "Hotel California", "New Kid in Town" and "The Last Resort" had to be a great success; not least for a band that was already firmly established on the charts. br> The title track is a great composition, which also offers some very memorable guitar solos. The lyrics are allegorical which open up to different interpretations. The song has very strong vocals by Don Henley. Glen Frey has the lead vocals on the second and the next big track. "The New Kid in Town" is a light pop-country song; shamelessly catchy and a logical number one on the charts. Pleasant lead and harmony vocals- Not all tracks have aged with the same grace; and after the great start follows a number of songs which I believe are unlikely to win a group of new followers. Best of these six tracks is Randy Meisner's "Try and Love Again"; however, unfortunately he does not have the formats of Don Henley and Glen Frey as a lead singer.br>
Fortunately, the album is brought to a very classy end with the epic "The Last Resort", on which Don Henley once again shines as lead singer. Great melody, on a song which has no chorus but instead some very nice instrumental interludes.
